I am confused

On my way back from class tonight I noticed my car was running a bit hot. I first tried turning on the heater but I couldn't feel any hot air at all. I then proceeded to pull over to check my radiator to see if coolant was circulating. My radiator was warm so I know my T stat is fine(I replaced my T stat about 2 weeks ago).

I got back in my car and started it up again then turned on the heater drove about 20 feet and then the temperature instantly dropped and I felt hot air through the heater. I'm guessing coolant isn't circulating somewhere but not sure exactly what's up. My car has actually done this several times now. It will heat up about 2/3 of the way on the gauge and then drop within a couple seconds. Thanks for the help.

If it was the water pump he would notice a leak.

It sounds like you may have an air pocket in the system.

+1

make sure it's as full as possible. If it's not that, i would try replacing the thermostat again. I've had a brand new one go bad in a week, so it's possible.

Re: I am confused

If coolant is low it will bypass the heater hoses. You probably have a leak somewhere.

So why would it start working again? I just replaced my water pump not too long ago but I guess it's possible it is leaking. Guess I'll have to check everything.

Re: I am confused

if heat isnt coming out then your heater core prob isnt working properly. If its the stock rad then you might want to think about changing it as most these cars still have stock rads and they are getting old.

Re: I am confused

I would check the slack at the water pump on the timming belt. After tearing mine down for a full rebuild i noticed that the belt was not correct. If you did the water pump not that long ago you were just in there. hope it helps No leaking required

I actually changed the radiator out for the 3sx high capacity so that's fine.

I noticed some coolant dripping from my car the other night. So I think it is definantly a leak at this point.

If there was slack he would have jumped time.

What you probably experienced was the auto tensioner doing its job of letting a little bit of slack in the belt when it sits. As soon as the car is cranked the tension is taken back up.
