I'd keep the heatshield
And as far as the battery, are you sure it has enough amps to work everything on the car?

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

lawnmower battery will work just fine, Im going to put a motorcycle one in mine. If you live in a cold area have fun starting it when it gets bellow freezing. You might want to carry one of those battery booster/jump start packs around. and dont run your radio with the car off, esp if you have subs.

The heat shields are their for a reason. I however dont care if I melt stuff, I will just relocate it. So my car doesnt have them either. And yes I have melted a couple wires, so be careful.

IPO over on 3si runs a motorcycle battery on his drag car without a problem. Although he has no major accesories except the laptop for his standalone. Mikes95RT runs a small lightweight battery in his TT swapped RT. He said he has to charge it up like every couple months though
