93 olds 88 royale starting problems

I have a 93 olds 88 royale 3.8l and the car wont start. I changed the starter and the car still wont turn over. The starter clicks but the car wont turn over. When I tried jumping the starter with a screwdriver the car turned over. Could this be an ignition key problem?, or can it be something else??

Do you have a spare key? If so, try it. You could have a PasKey problem.

Could it maybe be a solenoid problem in the starter? You mentioned getting a clicking sound, but the starter won`t engage.

Re: 93 olds 88 royale starting problems

Is the passkey the factory Olds/GM key that has that small diode looking thing in the middle of the black square on the top of the keyshaft? I`d think without the GM passkey, you`d get a completely dead start, but I may be mistaken.

My 300ZX had your very same symptoms. I`d turn the ignition and it`d just make a "click" sound up under the hood, and the starter wouldn`t engage. But,that car doesn`t have a special passkey. It`s just a regular ignition key.
