New to SoloII
Hi I'm Dan, trying to earn the nickname Dyno. I'm 21 and just now getting into motorsports, but slowly. The most race driving I've done is on playstation2 and the best machine I have is my 5 speed 240sx but I'm ready to do this. While I'm joining my scca region and getting information about soloII, what can you all tell me about autocross? What should I know before I make a real fool out of myself?

Re: New to SoloII
Don't hit the cones. :-)
No, really, just go out there and do it. And then ask the fast guys for a ride. The fast guys will show you how a good car will get around the track. At the next autocross, ask the other 240sx guys for a ride (fast or not) just so you can see how the car is handling without having to pay attention to driving it.

Re: New to SoloII
Sounds good, I was also told to get a smaller steering wheel to turn more but I'll try out the sea of cones before I need any mods.

Re: New to SoloII
Steering wheel is a comfort thing. If you're comfortable with stock, stay with stock. Most of the guys I know are still on their stock steering wheels, even the guys in BSP and BP.

Re: New to SoloII
They're SCCA classes. B-street prepared and B-prepared. They're the fast factory (as in, not home-built) cars. There are also some A-class cars that are faster, but most of those guys have made SIGNIFICANT modifications, even compared to the BSP/BP guys (who, by the way, have also made significant mods).

But in short there are classes that generally run from A down to G. Then after that you have a second part of the class that determines the leel of allowable modification. From Stock to Street Prepared to Street Modified to Prepared to Modified. So ou can have a car in A-Stock, or B-Prepared (which was actually just removed for lack of participation). For your car depending on the modifications you have you may not be elligible or competitive for certain classes. I would start off by reading more at sccaforums.com. BTW for most classes changing a steering wheel with an airbag built in is NOT allowed. DoubleTap |
