Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project

haha, yeah most of us have messy areas when we build. your work is great, do you plan to sell any parts or are they just for you? You must like making the moulded parts as you could 3d print the smaller ones really nicely on shapeways or similar now/=?

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project

I got plans to sell copys from that porsche.
Lets wait a couple of weeks for it.
Continue with the Porsche body.

The inner core step 2 was made. Its more smoother than the first casting.I used a lot of putty and now i got a better surface.
I forgot the side cooler intakes at the first casting. So now i changed the core to let them brake through.

But i still got some big bubbles under the naca duct intakes.
I try to cast with a higher slope, but this did not work well. Now i casted a third one with the maximum slope i can do.
Will see tomorrow if this is better or not.
I dont know what else i could do with my open mold.

regards Christian

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project

Ok guys,i was completely wrong.
I dont have to drill holes into the silicone.I need to drill the holes into the resin core.
My fault!
Was thinking in the wrong direction.
So when my last casting is the same like before i will drill some holes into the resin. They need to be so small that they break up easily when i remove the casted body.
Will see if i need it or.
Thanks for your thoughts and sorry for my weired question!
regards Christian

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project

Hi,the second version is much better than the first one.
Only 3-4 bubbles. But i will see if i can minimize them with a small modification at the inner core.

The body was sanded to a plain surface.
I used a thicker MDF plank and glued some sanding paper on it.Works fine.

The windows are cut out,and the dashboard plank was was put in place.

Seats are also done and next step will be the chassis.

I have to think about the suspension.I dont know how to make it at the moment.Need some good ideas first.

regards Christian

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project

Hi,
the molding creation comes slowly to an end.
The chassis is nearly finished yet.Only some cosmetic things to do.

In the background is my drilling template to make the center drills for the wheels.

Ok,i think the car is deep enough on the ground.

The body fits well onto the chassis.I made three points where the body touches the chassis.Should work i think.

I sanded one front and one rear wheel to check the correct height. It was easy to find the right measuring because of the cad data.

Ok,the suspension is not the prettiest one,but it should work. And at the end its invisible behind the brakes.

The nuts are full functional.

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project

Ok,the main molding bulding is done.
Only one for the side coolers and one for the exhaust should be done in the next week.

The body stands for the first time on his feet.I was surprised that he stand very tight on all four wheels.
The ride height is ok and everything fits together fine.
Next step will be the windows.something what I'm a little scared at the moment.
I will see if this works fine or not.

regards Christian

Re: 1/12 scale Porsche 956 milling project

Thanks guys!
Today i made my first ever vacuum formed windscreens.
It was very easy!

I used my old small oven who was bought from my wife a while ago.
Luckily she dont want him anymore. Its the perfect size for my modeling use.

The mold is fixed with tape onto my vac-box.

In the meantime the clear sheet is in the oven.

Vacuum cleaner is ready and waits for the warm clear sheet.

Quickly the sheet out of the oven and onto the box.

The result makes me happy.

And also the front windows are in the making.

Only have to cool down a bit and thats it.

I used PVC hard material in 0,3mm thickness for the first try.
I got some other material also at home who will tested later.
The molds are not clean enough, you can see every small scratch and i have to clean it better for the next vacuum screens.

But for my premiere with this i am very happy with the result.

Regards Christian
