Re: Die Töpless Triö Rides Again! Porsche 356 Group Büild

That is awesome PE-work. Absolutely stunning - makes me wonder, if you fabricated your family status made in another thread. Or does your day have more than 24 hours...?

Abot the round gap before the rear wheel arch. When I built this kit, I added this part later facing no problems with that one. And it gives you a chance to give it another shade than the body color. That is more realistic imho...!

Will you display the engine outside of the model. Would be a shame to hide all of this amaing work away.

Cheers

Robert

Stunning!

PS: When we'll have the chance to get some of these?

Here's some photoetch kutz style - i.e. a photo of something NOT being etched

I'm trying this approach to the hood fit issue. Not sure if it will work but it'll be fun trying

Steve, the work is awesome: I love so much metal works, but try to not to lost the "bump" in the front central section, under the chrome trim.

You'll try to work on those but wouldn't be easy.
I tried another way when I worked on my GZox Z side deflectors: insthead a thick plate (very good for not so tridimensional shapes) , try one of those thin art alu plates, some have also a brass plated side: you'll "easily" model over the plastic thing, leaving offset to cut it wider. Than you get a fragile thing: coat inside carefully with a poly "20min" putty, like automotive stuff, and it will rock in a whyle. Than just mill down with the dremel in the desired thickness (you0ll leave more in the middle, scale thickness in edges). May be good sand inside before model and apply putty to have a better grip.

Not an easy job, given the shape of the hood.
Luckily you seem to have enough material at disposal!

Looking forward to see how you do it!

Re: Die Töpless Triö Rides Again! Porsche 356 Group Büild

Hi guys!
After the first attempt to do photo etched fins, I got to think a lot about: Andy helped me out a lot to fix two major troubles: the fact that mount it was tedious, slow and for sure difficult, and the fact that head+piston has (often ) in and out ports for exaust and ignition/carbs. Cut the kit's small in/out ports and glue on metal parts would be not easy...

So we re-thought the whole thing, discuss a lot and at last I redesigned it to work with only two 1mm diam rods, so mount all 60+ fins is easy and quick (approx half time or less), the 8 corner 0.5 rods may (must) be used at last, and be mounted by bottom: they're now just estetic elements.

Well, something new born: I thought at "PE layers" just like Lego, in this way you'll prototype any form you want (at least isn't the rapid proto concept?) in plates. This time the stuff is really near to be produced, and open some interesting landscape: imagine...... ok I leave to your imagination, I got also too much of those

Ok time to leave space to shots:

Cheap home made proto (this time also slides)

Notice new dents: overlapping of them would help me to achieve the final port's shape

It's start to take shape

I must admit: nothing exceptional but when I seen ports take shape on the PE side I went a bit emotioned...

Almost all fins mounted

Notice that ports shape is optimized for unique 0.15 mm thick plate: insthead those i used 0.1 and 0.2 int for fins and spacers: at last result would be same but ports shape may be smooth on final product

Just a test using tack glue with ports faces

Mmmmm now parts are usable , also for a novice

Thanks a lot to Andy (a.k.a. MPWR) for all the help and the kind support in the development!

Having gotten to play with the prototypes, I can definitely say that they really are as cool as they look!

I'm certainly looking forward to seeing the production version. And of course as Gio mentioned, some additional fun ideas are being considered.

Wow, you are really crazy, this is awesomely insane!

And it looks like a lot of fun to build, I really like this level of insanity!

Keep it going!
