Revell Ferrari 430

I just started this 2 days ago, it is my first Ferrari and I had wanted to stay away from Revell but at €12.50 I couldn't help myself.
The body was the worst I have ever seen for mould lines, flash and dimples, it took an age to clean up. Also the panel lines were really bad with the fuel cap nearly flush with the body in some spots. After a lot of scribing and sanding the body is looking ok. I didn't bother take pics of it before hand but it was bad.
The next thing I worked on was the stance, by far the biggest complaint I have seen on these is the ride height so I dry fitted everything first to address that.
The advantages of a basic kit is that the suspension is really easy to lower.
On the front I simply cut 2mm from the top shock mount and then added a 2mm spacer between the bottom wishbone and the upright, this tucked the wheel right up to the arch. The rear was a bit more tricky but I will get some pictures up of how that was done.

The next jobs were to make the body look more realistic, i started with the front grills, they were a horrible moulded plastic so i cut those out to be replaced with proper mesh.

Then on to the engine cover, again there was just moudled plastic vents with decals to go on top to give the impression of mesh which looks awful but also hides engine bay detail so out with the pin vice again and started hours of drilling and cutting, I'm nearly finished now and it is looking a lot better.

Re: Revell Ferrari 430

A little more progress on this from last night, I got the engine cover finished and prepped the body for painting.

Re: Revell Ferrari 430

Got the body painted,2 primer coats, 4 dust coats and 2 wet coats

I also got some of the interior done, this is the scheme I am doing

I have a little more detailing to do on the steering wheel in particular, but I am happy with how the carbon turned out

Re: Revell Ferrari 430

Got a little more done last night I flocked the interior tub and started painting the panels, there is actually a suprising amount of detail for the interior with decals for all the small interior buttons and switches.
I will put up more pics later with all the decals and seats fitted

I also got a bit of the engine done, but it will require a lot of tiding and all the decals have to be added yet.

Its not too bad, great detail for interior and engine, but chassis, wheels and brakes are poor, in particular the wheels are far too small and the brakes are not accurate to this car at all.

Re: Revell Ferrari 430

Interior all but finished, not bad for a revell kit, I'm kinda sorry i rushed through it because there is scope for a decent finish on this interior. Obviously it needs a bit of tidying especially around the window switches.

Re: Revell Ferrari 430

Got it on its wheels tonight just to see how it sits, not too bad at the front but I think I need to get the rear tyre's on the drill and shave them a bit

Re: Revell Ferrari 430

Started sanding and polishing the body this evening 1500, 2000 and 2500 is as far as I am going, tamiya 3 stage polish and this is the result on the roof.

Even though I am happy with this I am going to invest in some higher grade sand papers for the next one and see what improvements can be made

Re: Revell Ferrari 430

I think I am done with this, not as bad as I was expecting and went together pretty easy.

She looks nice! Good to see a non-red Ferrari too.

Cheers,
