Oil Consumption
I have a 2000 Outback with approx. 130000 kms/60,000 miles and it seems to use oil.It doesn't smoke or seem to leak but I would say it uses maybe a litre of oil every 2000 to 3000 kms.Is this excessive for this vehicle.I know with North American vehicles the PCV valve can cause oil problems but I'm not that familiar with these.BTW it's a 2.4.

Re: Oil Consumption
A 2.4?
I thought the Outback was a 2.5 I've never heard of one burning oil at that rate though, sounds like you have something wrong there.

Re: Oil Consumption
How's heavier weight oil going to help?

Re: Oil Consumption
Subaru has a recall on oil consumption with this engine. They are extending the warranty. Get you VIN number and call Subaru!

Re: Oil Consumption
We have a 2012 Outback purchased new, in our family. I have done the maintenance since the local dealer hit us for over $400 on the first service then scared a family member into an un-needed rear brake job. We got the letter about the extended warrantee but have had no success pursuing remedy. The dealer keeps asking to do oil consumption checks, (way over 1 l per 1000 kms) but no action. This engine has a recognized problem acknowledged by the manufacturer but there is no action. Don't ever buy a Subaru.
In total contrast, another family member has a Acura mdx purchased used. This week Acura has given him a new 2019 mdx as a loaner for a week while they replace the oil drinking engine. Same problem as the Subaru but Acura steps up. Way to go Acura. Subaru not so much. |
