this is not normal, there is a slight amount of oil entering the cooling system.this can come from............
a cracked head,or a deteriorated head gasket,or a corroded timing cover,or a deteriorated automatic transmission cooler(which is built into the radiator tank) report back if you need further help with testing |

YOUR CAR IS FUCKED!!! who eva told you that is normal has no idea at all. this stuff in your radaitor is oil from your engine thats why your oil levels are slowly droping. you need a new head or gasket but get it looked at asap!!!!

Re: BROWN FROTH AND OIL IN RADIATOR help???????
I have had 1 x VR Exc 1 x VS Exc & 1 x VS Berlina all with the same problem without dramas. The 95 Berlina had this problem from 60,000km(under warranty) until I just sold it at 285,000kms. I took it to a few Holden dealers over the years & it was cause by having more frequent coolant changes due to higher kms & the oil residue is from the pellets added to the coolant every change. If the coolant is not flushed properly the pellets (lube) material builds up in the system. Holden`s put in 3 pellets every change to ensure that all parts are lubed, so they won`t fail under warranty. I just done my first water pump after 280,000kms. I would not worry too much!

Re: BROWN FROTH AND OIL IN RADIATOR help???????
The pellets are NOT a lubricant. They actually stop the waterpump and the rest of the cooling system from leaking. Once the powder from the pellets is wet, it stays in a liquid 'mud' form until a leak occurs and the pellet powder fills in the gap. As soon at it hit the air, it becomes a cement like power that stops the leak.

Re: BROWN FROTH AND OIL IN RADIATOR help???????
Yeah, the pellets are responsible for a lot of the sludge found in commodore coolant bottles etc, in the past. But no-one uses them anymore so the residue should be well and truly flushed out of the system. The head gaskets on the VR are not prone to failure! The intake manifold gaskets on the VR have a tendency to fatigue and fail, allowing water to seep into the engine. Not a big problem if it's a slow seep. But worth fixing. Have a look at the joints between the manifold and the heads - if you see any beeds of water, then the gaskets should be replaced.

Re: BROWN FROTH AND OIL IN RADIATOR help???????
I agree with club327, try the inlet manifold gaskets first before anything else. The inlet manifold gaskets the V6 engine are junk, they always crack and weep oil into the cooling system. Also don't bother with those pallets either, there also junk
