1998 Bravada Short Between Fuel Pump and Tailgate Glass Release
I have a 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada. My wife unintentionally took it off roading. After this it was fine for a couple of weeks but then it started having a problem when you try to strat the Bravda. The start clicks and the tailgate class unlatches. As a result of the off road adventure the left rear quarter panel has sustained minor damage as did the bumper on that side. The front end was knocked out of alignment. I have had the front end alignment done and an oil change. Then the problem with the tailgate and starting happened.
I have been looking for where the wires from the fuel pump and the tailgate could be coming in contact with each other but I can't seem to find a location where those two harnesses joing or cross each other. Any help with this would be appreciated. Thanks Ron |

On these "modern" vehicles, the power is supplied to each doo-dad and the circuits are closed/made on the ground side of the circuit. Check the wiring near the latch solenoid for the non-power wire going to ground.

On my 92 Bravada the rear hatch latch is on the same circuit as the car horn in the steering column, I know because when we hit the horn the latch used to pop open or blow the fuse for both. When I replaced the ignition switch that problem went away too. Might be a short in the ignition switch or column.
