Opel Astra (study in racing interior details)
I decided to do a simple build up of the Opel, but with a special concentration on the interior detail.. The outside is simple, no special details, just different rims.
Here is the exterior: Peak inside: rear window, shoing a little of the carbon fiber rear shelf: rear: now for some detail...I have never done a full blown race interior before and with some research... in this shot you can see the wired headphones, back lit display, etc. Close up of the wheels.. yes I know that Bilstein does not make wheels Here you can see a race helmet, steering wheel release spring, wiring and wired computer boxes: close up: front: more detail of the headphones: rear shot, showing off seatbelts, carbon fiber shell of the seat, etc.. What do you think??? |

Peugeot logos on the helmet?
Could you take some photos with the body off? From what I can tell you've done a really nice job on the interior but I would really like to see more.

Besides that the car is beautiful. The work that went into it is impeccable. Good work!

Okay, I might be too familiar with the real car (have studied it a lot), and some things really hit my eye.
When this is a real touring car, the paint scheme is different, so I would go either just as the real car replica, or then something completely different, and not just changing the paint scheme to single colour while using most of the original decals. But this is only my opinion, everyone's got right to their own. I try to build the racing models basically as accurate as possible to the real car. The interior is also basically well done, but with some basic mistakes in detail. Check the photos of the real interior of this car: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=151753 A touring car does not have any headphones, as they don't drive any street moving parts, so the car is never driven without the helmet. Also the helmet seems to be a rally helmet, which is the wrong type for this car, you can see the real helmet of Manuel Reuter in the photos on the other thread. (http://www.opelclubfinland.net/kuvat...2_g[1].jpg this photo and this. So a correct helmet would have been quite simple, a neon yellow integral helmet with simple graphics. Some of the coloring is also incorrect, the interior is mainly black (and carbon fiber), with grey roll cage, but the paddings in the roll cage are black. Also the gear shifter is black in the real car. I also don't like the silver paint on the brake discs, as this car has carbon discs, they are supposed to be darker grey. And the change of the wheels is also one thing, if this is supposed still to be a DTM series touring car, as the 19" ATS wheels which came with the kit were the only wheels allowed in the rules of the series. And if the car is supposed to be in some other series, then the decals should be different or not at all. The gullwing doors should also open a bit more, see the angle on my model's photos. Is there also a problem in the fitting of the rear bumper? Mine fitted nicely, and the interiors of the openings on the bumpers are supposed to be black. Don't take this too seriously, I might seem too critical, these are just words from a hard core Opel fan... who has studied the real car very much (and built that kit too myself). It's still a great model and well built and looks good also like you did it. Mostly these are differences in the approach to the model. |
