In Progress - C-Class DTM D2 - Tamiya 1/24

Hi,

This is the first time that I'm able to show some work in progress, thanks to the digicam from my friend that I was able to use at work.

As you can see, there's already a lot of work done, but still some finishing and detailling left.

The interior
The seat is in place and finished and cf-decal applied in various area's. The dash is still untouched and will receive the same cf-threatment. Also some wiring will be added - probably, If I find the time and courage.

Nose section
The nose section is nearly finished. One headlamp remaining as well as the numberplate, Mercedes star and some other details

Wheels
sanded and painted, valve added. Needs to be trimmed, decals to be added and some detail painting.

Bodywork
Nearly all decals are in place. However, as with the Sonax I did, the decals were wrinckled and have given me some headpain to get the right. Wrinckels are still visible, but probably the clear coating will deal with that.

Starting to take some shape already

Very nice, I've got that same model waiting. Main concern about the model for me are the decals. How did they go on where the body is curved?? They are sooo big.

Excellent work!!!

As I have done a number of these, I have a ton of parts left over so if you need anything please ask.

Also, I have a tip for headlights that makes them a little for realistic.. As DTM cars do have an actual working headlight you can drill the inside of the curved cup representing low beam and put a small piece of clear prue (painted yellow) to represent the fog light. also you can cover the headlight in baremetal foil to show the reflective surfaces...

Otherwise VERY VERY clean job with cf decals!!!

(Let me know if you want a prototypically correct steering wheel for this car (the one in the Tamiya kit if incorrec...it should have the AMG steerign wheel from the C36))

GOOD JOB SO FAR!!!

Great job. I built one of these years ago when they first came out. What a decalling effort! I know mine won't be a patch on this when it is finished. Keep it up.

The decalling is realativelly straight forward, if you pay attention to the besic decalling rules. Meaning trim the carrier film off as much as possible and use MicroSet a lot. The decals are - apart from being a bit wrinckled - easy to place. Remove excessive water and put the Set on. When the Set starts to dry apply again - very gently though - and again, until the decals conforms the shape. After the first or second "Set-run" - the decals should dry an onvernight - I cut the decals in the door panels and apply some Set again. Doesn't matter, since the panels will be covered in black.

Hope this helps
