hi

I have just purchased a N reg 1.4i renault 19 5 door and i am unable to keep a charge in the battery , i have changed the battery for a new one and in 5 hours the battery is dead again ,
are there any known faults that maybe the cause of this

If you need further details plz let me know

Try disconnecting the rear window heater as it might be a faulty switch (stuck on), worth a try if nothing else.

Re: Renault 19 battery drain problem

Fault finding.
If you take the accu lead off does it spark when you reconnect it?

Take out all fuses, be sure which carrier slots they came out from so you don't swap the values about.

Do the spark test each time and narrow it down to the circuit which draws current.

Then it is a matter of tracing the wiring, the on off switches of the item concerned if it is not on all the time.

If you have a DC ammeter you can put that in series to check what load you are drawing from the accu which may give you an idea which may be at fault.

Good luck
