89 Ford UHaul Fuel guage does not work

Is there a Fuel Guage relay under the hood or cab that is needed to make the Fuel guage work on a 7.3 Diesel ? The sending unit on the tank has no 12V voltage also the interior light in Box doesn't work; are they on same circuit ?

Re: 89 Ford UHaul Fuel guage does not work

Welcome to AF! Not sure about the light in the box. However, the fuel gauge seems to be not working because of the sending unit. To check the sending unit put the probes of an voltage-ohmeter on the sending unit terminals and check the resistance. Use the 200 ohm scale on the ohmeter. With the fuel tank empty the resistance should be about 22 ohms. With the tank full the resistance should be about 145 ohms. If the readings are incorrect replace the sending unit. With no 12 volt indication at the sending unit it would read full all the time. What does it read at when not working? Fuse for the instrument cluster could be at fault. Do the other gauges work?
