how do i remove the cover to gain access to cd player, does everything just pull out, i don't see any screws.



does anyone have a wiring diagram

Well that one is going to cost you, alot.

The dash itself is just snap clips holding it in, however they are very strong and they are have a very tight tolerance, unusual for most newer chevy vehicles.

Three things you will need to do this.......

First, get ahold of a "panel puller". It is a tool that is specifically designed to take apart door panels and remove snap clips in kick panels, dashes and other places without breaking the plastic it is molded to. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU BUY ONE FROM SNAP-ON! As a former professional installer, I cannot tell you how much better their tool is than the cheap 10 dollar one you can get from autozone. They run about 25 bucks, but, they are warrantied for life and the points on them are much stronger metal and skinnier for easier use. Also, a little known trick to us installers, the snap on pannel puller for some strange reason can help remove scratches from the plastic in the dash if you make them. Simply turn it around and use the handle to "rub" the plastic and the scratch magically dissapears, most of the time, depending on the damage done.

You should start by gently prying in the A/C controls region of the dash from inside to out. Once you get that clip to pop, do the opposite side, then from the outside of the center pannel (where it meets the dash), try to get the very bottom two clips out (be gentle!) From here, work your way upwards and remove the rest of the clips.

KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE WILL BE PLUGS ATTACHED TO THE TRACTION CONTROL BUTTON THAT YOU CAN YANK OUT IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL TO UNPLUG THEM BEFORE YOU GO PULLING TOO HARD.

Second, you will need a dash kit for this truck, you should be able to get one from your local Best Buy, Circuit City, or custom shop. Do not try and cheap out and buy one at Wal-Mart, the plastic is crap and they are generic multi kits that are supposed to fit every vehicle for 20+ years. Stay away from these, trust me, it's worth the 18 bucks to get the right one.

Lastly and most expensively, you will need a wiring harness. Unfortunately this truck is like every other GM vehicle equipped with Passlock security systems in the last 10 years. There is no ignition wire that you would traditionally find in most vehicles. Also you can't just go randomly searching for an ignition signal because you will overload the circuits in the truck and draw too much amperage blowing the circuit. Your safest alternative is to buy a wiring harness. This will allow you to plug the stereo right into the truck as if it was intended to be there. The downside, it costs about 80-100 bucks depending on where you get it.

The harness in unnecessary. The IGN ON wire is very low current, so it is perfectly safe to tap into the wiper fuse (on in run and acc). Just install a 1 amp inline fuse so that if it would ever short to ground it doesn't take out the wiper fuse too.

It also has nothing to do with it being passlock or not. GM started using "RDS" radios instead of the theftlock ones, matches the VIN number in the radio to the one in the BCM or PCM. Much harder to get around than having to press some buttons and call an 800- number . The RDS radio uses a UART data line to turn the unit on/off.
