2005 Jeep Liberty AC repair ??

My Liberty was cycling the AC compressor very quickly and not blowing cold air at idle. Seemed cold enough when driving, so I thought it needed some Freon. Went to put some in and I have a very high pressure on the suction side. Google search lead me to believe the refrigerant control valve is bad. I don't have a manual. Can some one tell me where the RCV is located or some where on the web I can see a diagram of the AC system?

Did you measure that very high pressure with the bottle open? or closed? if open, yep that is the bottle pressure--cycling rapidly means very low suction pressure (without bottle near vehicle) so you have contradicted yourself otherwise.

Re: 2005 Jeep Liberty AC repair ??

Thank for the help. I checked with gages.
@idle suc>53 dis>270
@1500 suc>50 dis>300
@2000 suc>55 dis>350

outside temp 90F
Poor cooling, The pressures seem high. If this is correct will Freon help?

No- put a garden hose mist to front of condenser- then report back pressures- should be lots lower on both- which will prove you have a heat transfer issue at condenser- as in little air flow volume- bad fan (clutch fan?) or dirt/debris in condenser fins....since it cools well while driving, I suspect bad/inop fan(s)

report back

Re: 2005 Jeep Liberty AC repair ??

With a mist on the condenser it ran well suc>40 dis>100 +-. Washed out the condenser with pressure and the compressor keeps cycling in and out 22>46 and 140>160 with a shop fan on in front. Discharge air never got below 75F. I may be rushing things but the cycling of the compressor tells me some thing is wrong.

What is this and where does it go?

Thanks brcidd.

I learned how to check relays and that the fan motor was bad. Replaced the fan and now idling
Suc = 39
Dis = 170

Clutch stays engaged.
