Reference needed: GT 40 Mk 2

Hi,

I just started the Trumpeter 1/12 kit and having a hard time finding good references of the actual cars...not overrestored or replicas.

I also have two questions:

Is the Le Mans '66 car the same color as the Gulf 917's or is it a lighter blue ?

does someone know if this car is painted silver or polished aluminium. I know that is has a aluminium body..but saw pictures of a restored car and that was painted silver. But the pictures looks more like polished

thanks for any imput or references

I would bet that it was a '65 or '66 Ford production color. Probably Arcadian Blue. See here :http://www.tcpglobal.com/autocolorli...-ford-pg01.jpg (1966 carried the color over).

Painted. See here for several period photos of both cars: http://www.lemans-history.com/equipas.php?ano=1966

Good luck.

Re: Reference needed: GT 40 Mk 2

Daniel,
I am about 2/3 done with my GT and I posted several facts in this thread:
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...ight=MerlinPro

Be advised that the MK II cars were fibreglass panels, not aluminum. Only the roof (not doors) and A and B pillars were steel because they were part of the entire monocoque chassis structure. When constructed almost all cars had the chassis painted a medium blue. The body panels were painted all different for the '66 race.

There are many ways to detail the Trump kit better but if you're building a different car than the #2 (George Stauffer's restoration) you may need different fuel pumps, etc to replicate an exact car. If you want an accurate replica, you can't just slap other decals on as the cars all had detail differences. I chose to take license and build 'my' version as I would love to own it today but with period parts. I did that because you can't build an accurate #2 car even though that's what Trump is giving you.

The thread (which the OP never responded to!) may help you understand better.

Here is an excellent guide for metal finishes and arrangements as #1032 is being restored:

thanks..good news that the silver car is painted.
I guess I won't gi for an super accurate model, just a cool looking car. I just will try to add as much detail as possible.
