Veyron not a real Bugatti?

"Beggaring Bugatti"

I have to agree. But, regardless of where you fall, some good pictures and an interesting story or two about Ettore...

I don't see much to agree with there. The Veyron is an over-the-top production much in the vein of the Royale. There's not a clear lineage between it and past Bugatti race cars because it is not designed to be a race car. It is designed to be the ultimate road car. In the past 7 decades, the notion of what constitutes the ultimate road car has shifted from an ultra-luxury car to a performance car, and the new Bugatti follows that path.

Whether or not the Bugatti Veyron attains its aim is up for debate, and the jury is still out in some respects until it is in actual production. Another car built to be the ultimate road car, the McLaren F1, took a vastly different approach with its light weight, central seating design, and so forth.

I don't see how the Veyron is a real Bugatti due to the fact that VW is working on it.

define Bugatti:

If a car waering a Bugatti badge is a Bugatti, then the Veyron (and the EB110) is.

If a car shall be built in the factory in Molsheim, by a guy named Ettore Bugatti or his family, then the Veyron and the EB110 are not.

How do you think about the Argentinian replica's that are built then? (http://www.pursangweb.com.ar/)
Bugatti is not working on it, however, every single part of that car is 1:1 replacable with a Bugatti. Amazing masterpieces.

Is the Veyron according to "Bugatti" workmanship? It is hard to tell, and I think everyone has to decide for himself.

VW simply bought the Bugatti name several years ago.

Heck, the new Bentley Continental Flying Spur and Continental GT both use a VW Phaeton's steel chassis.

Some Bentleys are now even built at a German VW factory, but those won't be sold in Britain and the U.S.

Re: Veyron not a real Bugatti?

Any new Bugatti isn't going to be a "real" Bugatti because the kook behind the name is gone. The Royale was a nouveaux riche car and so is the Veyron. But I love modern interpretations of old names and so I like the Veyron, it'll do, and the new Maybachs as well.

Re: Veyron not a real Bugatti?

More and more famous automobile names from the past are being rediscovered and reused. Like the Dutch Spijker (now Spyker) building sports cars and recently a SUV.

Why worry or debate over the matter!

Just feel proud that the world's most technologically advanced motor vehicle EVER bears a horse-shoe radiator and the Bugatti name!

If you think the new bugatti isn't a bugatti because it's founder is dead then it should be the same with ferrari. I sure Enzo isn't still around.
