Question 1999 Grand Am Horn Not Working

Hello everyone,

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE with the 3400 motor. I have a problem with the horn not working from the steering wheel column and was wondering if anyone could help me fix it. I know the horn does work because it sounds off with my alarm. It just will not work when I press on the steering wheel. If anyone could help me, I would be thankful.

Thank you,

Jaime

Re: 1999 Grand Am Horn Not Working

The horn activates by supplying a ground to the horn relay. Since the horn works with the alarm, the problem goes back to the steering wheel. When the horn button is pressed a ground is supplied via a slip ring to the horn relay. So the horn button is probably worn out or defective or the slip ring is bad. Also, try blowing the horn while you turn the steering wheel in different directions.

I have the same problem, and I know the slip ring is bad. Does anyone know where I can get a new one. I've been searching everywhere online and can't find the part. I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I'm having the same problem.

Send a PM email to Richtazz. He's an ASE Certified Parts Specialist and specializes in GM cars. If he can't get you a part number and where to get it then no one can. Good luck!

Your part # is 26099571, and it's part of the turn signal cancelling cam. It's a dealer only part, and runs $18.31 retail.

does this part work the horn, i was told it is activated by a clock spring (which is in the $120 price range) on my car when you turn the wheel and press on the horn you can get the horn to work sometimes and if you push on the horn hard it will sometimes work. Do i have the same problem as the other users (18 bucks is sure better then $120)
