Buick Terraza won't crank occasionally

2007 Buick Terraza won't turn over on occasion, no clicking, radio worked, air worked (happened today, last time was July 4th). Jump starts quickly. Battery shows 12V after driving 10 miles. My understanding is if the battery was dead it would not charge that quickly. No corrosion, cables tight. Any ideas?

Re: Buick Terraza won't crank occasionally

Read a post about an Olds Silhouette that the key may be the problem. I'll switch out the spare key with her other key. In the mean time i will be in search of the "Purple wire". What say you?

Re: Buick Terraza won't crank occasionally

Should show 12.6 volts.....whats the voltage when it won't crank? Do you have a bat gage in the dash? What's it charging at?

Look at your THEFT/SECURITY light when it won't crank(release key when it won't crank and leave on)....if the light is on, that's your problem.....by the way, you don't have one of those aftermarket remote starters or theft systems added to your vehicle do you?

Re: Buick Terraza won't crank occasionally

My 2006 buick terraza will not start. I am starting to get worried. I put a new battery and starter on it and it still won't start. Also all lights and radio come on

Re: Buick Terraza won't crank occasionally

By won't start, do you mean that it cranks and doesn't fire, or it doesn't crank at all?

IF it doesn't crank, you could have a SECURITY problem....there is a purple wire going to the starter solenoid......it should have powerTest with a test light, not a voltmeter) with the key in the crank position.....if it doesn't, try starting in neutral(apply e-brake)......If you do have power, bad starter....yes, rebuilts can be bad....

Not sure if this vehicle has PassLock or PassKey III....your owner's manual will tell you this......if you have PassKey III, turn key to on(don't try to crank)....the SECURITY light should come on for 3 seconds and go out.....if it stays on or flashes, you have a theft deterrent problem....

PassLock is different....the SECURITY light will stay on constantly, with key on.....it will only go out once the vehicle has started...if it is flashing, obviously there is a problem.....

A scan tool would show probably a B2958 or B2960.....but most scan tools out there can't read "B" codes......

There is a starter enable relay that could be bad...could try swapping with another relay......not much else a DIY'er can do, without a premium scan tool.....

Was a remote starter or alarm ever installed in the vehicle?

It Won't fire. Don't know if it had a remote starter placed in. I purchased this car from the auction about 9 months ago.

Re: Buick Terraza won't crank occasionally

If it cranks, but won't fire, you need to check for codes....

Then check for spark, fuel pressure, injector pulse, and if needed, compression........
