2004 Chevrolet Cavlier LS Electrical issue

Hey everyone,
Thanks in advance for any assistance you offer with this.
Started just a couple of days ago when I turn the key over and nothing, no bells, no lights nadda. I randomly stepped on the brakes and lo and behold the dash lights up and I was able to start the car. Progressively it has gotten worse. ALL OF THIS IS DURING START UP! No problems if the car actually starts up.
I step on the brakes and the entire electrical system freaks a couple seconds, sometimes the trunk pops, sometimes it doesn't. Bells are a little lower than usual and I turn the key and get nothing, dash blacks out again. Just random. Harder to get the car started. Pop it in neutral, sometimes it'll start, sometimes not. Just wiggling things around trying to track it down and no luck.
Replaced the crank relay under the hood. still no love.
Any ideas???

Thank you~

Re: 2004 Chevrolet Cavlier LS Electrical issue

You are correct......it is weird....almost sounds like there is a bad ground somewhere, and it backfeeds through the brake/cruise/tcc switch?

Not sure on this vehicle, if there are a lot of grounds on this vehicle under the carpet.........remove the sill in the bottom door opening, and feel UNDERNEATH the carpet, to see if it is wet....check both sides........if wet, there could be a corroded connection under there.....
