97 Pontiac Trans Sport Oil Pressure light

Yesterday while getting on the expressway I was going about 60-65 mph my van suddenly gave a jerk and the oil pressure light came on and wouldn't accelerate. When I pulled over and stopped the car shut off. It would start back up but it was a rough start and when you pressed the gas it would shut off. Can anyone tell me what might be the cause?

Re: 97 Pontiac Trans Sport Oil Pressure light

Sounds like a meltdown of some metal (internal engine) parts due to lack/loss of oil pressure.
