Smile Starting problems

Ok, hopefully I can explain this ok. Whenever I start my 97 vision It will just turn over and not start. I have to hold the gas pedal on the floor (strange for fuel injected) in order for it to start. When I take my foot off the gas pedal it dies. After the car is warm (driven) it starts perfectly with no problems. It acts like it has a bad choke. I am assuming that there is some kind of electronic choke? If so where would I find it and what does it look like? If this is not the choke, then what could be causing this problem? At first I thought it only happened when it was cold out (mornings), but today it was 60 degrees out, and again, I had to hold the gas down in order for it to start. Any suggestions?

Re: Starting problems

Friend, I am not a mechanic, but I just fixed similar problem with my 96 Eagle vision. It would start, would not develop and hold rpms, then simply die after a few seconds.

Here are a few suggestions: first check your relays in the power distribution center. If they have never been changed, then I recommend that you go ahead and buy at least a couple. (they are only 10 bucks each aftermarket or 15 at the dealer). Then, pull out old ones (like the fuel pump relay, starter relay, and the automatic shutoff relay. Then plug in the new one to check to see if there is a difference. Changing the relays is REAL important. Everything runs through this distribution system and is monitored by the computer.

Of course, there is always the troublesome pcv and egr valves which are easy to replace yourself.

Last, how long has it been since you changed the old plugs. They still need changing once in a while. After I checked and changed these items on my old 96 with over 172,000 miles, it ran like new. I love my old Eagle vision 3.5.
hope this helps. good luck
