Beating a Honda Civic Hatch

I know everyone always says just race to find out, but i haven't even purchased my LS1 yet. Anyway, This guy around town just dropped a H22 (Prelude motor) into his Honda Civic Hatchback. He heard I am shopping for an LS1 and called me up to let me know not to bother to race him. I just wanted to get some opinions on our potential showdown... I have to note that he is also the town asshole, and am also one of the few people in the area that isn't a damn import-head, and i want to assure this victory for muscle worldwide.

Well, first, I don't know what the prelude motor will run in a hatch, but my bone stock 99 Z28 ls1 runs 13.7 @102 in the 1/4 mile. I'm reasonably sure that if the prelude motor is stock you should be able to beat him. I've won over a couple of hatchs at the track, some were spraying NOS. Not saying imports can't be fast, but that combo doesn't sould like all that much to me.

he has to have other mods in there besides just the swap to beat an ls1. so find out if he has a turbo or something. then decide from there cause if he does have a turbo then, hell i don't know.

Re: Beating a Honda Civic Hatch

I know someone with a Civic hatch and and an H22 in it. He's running mid 13's with intake header and exaust. HIs car is also light and he's a damn good driver. If he got some grippier tires (he has Azenis now) and 50 shot, I think he would be into the the 12's.

Re: Beating a Honda Civic Hatch

Even if he has a Turbo, supercharger ,NOS. and he can blow you away just remind him that your driving one of the greatest Muscle car's to ever be designed with enough Horsepower and torque right off the factory line to humble any Honda (this include the NSX in straigh line acceleration) and if he had anykind of common sence that it takes alot less to make a LS1 super fast than a civic

Re: Beating a Honda Civic Hatch

If you have a front wheel drive civic vs. a rear wheel drive LS1, it could be close battle if the "tuner" knew what he was doing. Otherwise, not even a contest people.

friend of mine got a b18c5 engine from an integra type r put in his crx and that car is freakin fast even though its a fwd. it spins the wheels on pretty much every gear shift and it weighs almost nothin. its all engine. This engine only has 200hp but it hauls ass in such a light car.

You didn't mention which engine it had. all you said is it was a, h22a but you didn't say which type of prelude it came from. If its an h22a from a type s 97-01 prelude then its got 223hp stock standard. If its from a 97-01 prelude v-tec then its pushin 202hp and if its form an older prelude (92-96v-tec) then its got a factory rating of 200hp. You're pushing an ls1 with 300+hp so i would think that would compensate for the lighter weight advantage he has, not to mention the huge torque in an ls1 compared to the 160lbs of torque in the h22a engine.

alas, there is only one way to find out. Run em and give it all you got. just make sure you practise how to get a good launch before hand and practise getting yuo shifts right (if its a manual). good luck.

Dude I would not worry aobut. Usually town ass-holes are all talk and no go. b16a,h22cdrf. It does not matter what engine he has. Run 'em and let us know how is goes. First though I would go pratice with your car. maybe go get some track time. Find a buddy who has been racing. I'm not trying to brag but, I helped my buddy drop his time with his '02 LS1. He went from a 13.6 to a 13.2. We did it buy just playing with tire pressures and othersuch stuff. His problem was he just did not know how to hook up his car. Get a feel for it before you run.

Re: Beating a Honda Civic Hatch

Thanks for the advice... I haven't actually bought the LS1 yet (I have put down a $3000 deposit), I am trying to sell my car right now... a '96 RS with some goodies, if anyone is interested. Problem is, i feel like no one wants a v6 anymore, though they can be fun, and have a nice, more even weight distribution. I beat this asshole when he a SOHC Si motor, even though he thought a v6 base-model camaro is slow compared to his top-model Si. When i get the LS1 i want to throw a few goodies in right away, exhaust, intake, pullies. But as soon as i have it and race him i will post the results.
