HVAC Controller Question

Long time reader and first time poster. Here we go: I have 97 OLDS LSS with approx. 287K miles and loving it still. After replacing heater core and blower fan 6 months ago, the air flow is weak and only through windshield.

I know I need a HVAC Programmer and the Original GM Part number is
162-58433 which is no longer made or in stock.

I did find that on partsgeek.com they have a HVAC Programmer for 1997 Buick LeSabre.

Does anyone know if the Buick will fit in the Olds ok? If not, any suggestions on how I can locate a HVAC Programmer.

Thanks in advance.

Re: HVAC Controller Question

The fact the airflow goes to windshield says your vacuum is not complete- it is leaking- these programmers tend to leak at the vacuum manifold- the soft rubbery element turns to mush and leaks- so I take them apart and completely bypass the manifold by running separate vacuum lines (spliced in) inside the hvac programmer box.

I've done 5 or 6 this way- never has it been a programmer issue- it has always been the vacuum leaking issue.

Re: HVAC Controller Question

brcidd - many thanks for the expeditious reply. Dumb question, ahead - when you write
"so I take them apart and completely bypass the manifold by running separate vacuum lines (spliced in) inside the hvac programmer box.", what is the level of difficulty and would you be able to share step by step instructions? I am okay on repairs, just not the master you are.

Re: HVAC Controller Question

The vacuum hoses are color coded- so I splice in windshield wiper washer hose (smallest rubber hose sold) which will slide over plastic hose ends and not need any clamps since it is vacuum-

So I open the hvac box- cut a small square out of side and make room for hoses to go inside and attach to the same colors inside- pretty easy and simple actually.
