It wasn't my intention to make the results disappointing, I really like the finish he got on that CF decal job.

Let's put this behind us and enjoy the progress of this build, which I'm sure it will be fabulous.

What is quite clear from all of the comments post stripe, and whether you agree or disagree, is that the members on this forum care very passionately about the hobby!!

Yep, your are 100% right. If the weave was truly in scale, it would look like a dirty paint job, and printers would not be able to print a clean sheet, you would end up with a lot of wasted sheets and flaws. I like the pattern being visible so I look past the "true scale"aspect.

What patience! What skill! What mastery! All of that work! The nose - how many surfaces there are and then the seam work is spot on, too. Then the seam on the tail and all the vents - that is just superb!! This is going to be a show stopper when finished for sure!

Excellent work so far Dave. I love the deep finish the 2K has given the decals and i am pro the strip, it adds to the look of the car and as also said it hides the join line well. Please post more.

Zero paints is currently sold only by hiroboy.com. Worth every cent! He's located in the UK.

Small update on this one. Undercarriage carbon is in process. I added SMS Twill weave, one coat of Urethane clear and once dry I added pro tech .020 PE bolts in all the molded in locations.....

More soon!

Re: Jean Todt's Ferrari FXX. Using SMS superset

y'know, I'm not sure I'm a fan of the type of clear you're using.
For some reason, whenever I see a photo of that sort of clear (is it the same as the 2K clears) it looks too thick.

Could just be down the photography or even because in this case, I'm too used to seeing a smoked clear on CF decals.

Or maybe it's because it is too shiney?

photos just don't look right.

It is 2k clear. Dupont to be exact.... I hear this all the time.... nothing I am not used to.... I use 2K clear because its high solid content. It will outlast any lacquer paint job out there.... Lacquer will shrink... then when you polish it it will shrink again over time.... I am not a fan of that. I will take the thickness over that any day. Not a fan? Not your model plain and simple. But I do appreciate the feedback!

Thanks,

DaveT

*Drooling*

I love the shine that your clear coat gives the CF. I have to try some once I get used to my new airbrush.

What airbrush are you using? Been trying to figure out what king of brush to get.
