Re: 1/8th Scratchbuild - Porsche RS60

Holy Dagmars, how did I miss this thread?? So, this is where the master jewelery maker lives. Right away I was inspired to give up 1/24 and start scratch building in this big scale. But when I got to those incredible brake drums and then those beautiful rims, I decided I should stick to the simple stuff. Fascinating how you brought the body to life with the balsa and filler. This is the kind of stuff I would dream of doing myself. Keep up the great work, this is just beautiful.

Boy, am I happy. Managed to finish the master for the brake and clutch pedals today! These parts have taken me ages as they were so tricky to shape - making a decent mould of them will be even more difficult!

Spent ages trying to make the right texture for the pedal pad - ended up moulding the texture from a small file...enjoy!

Yes Tony, 11 bits from the usual old stuff. 8 pieces of plastic sheet, 1 piece of alluminium, 1 piece of cast resin. Still got to make the mounting bolts, hinge pin, spring, pushrod and seal etc...20 ish bits in total!

Re: 1/8th Scratchbuild - Porsche RS60

Now this is just getting silly...

Textures on the pedal bodies? Crazy! I'm impressed that the detail will still show once it has been resin-cast - but I can imagine how good it will look when it's all painted.

Great stuff!

Well, I sure wouldn't want my foot to slip while heel/toe feathering the brake and throttle and shifting at 140mph...

Looks incredible Cing... I like that you're further ahead of me in your build; lets me know where the bar is for my build while admiring yours...

Re: 1/8th Scratchbuild - Porsche RS60

Cheers guys!

Just a quick update. I've made the chassis cross-tube that will mount the brake and clutch master cylinders and pedals. Porsche chose not to put the holes in the centre axis of the tube, which I thought was a mistake a first. Having checked out other cars it's evident they did this for both the 550 and 718 cars:

I can only think they did it to allow floor clearance for the pedal mounts. This part will be covered in Porsche's tatty welding seams and then resin cast - don't want to be hand making duplicates of these monkeys!

Re: 1/8th Scratchbuild - Porsche RS60

Thanks guys! For the 1:1, check out my avatar - been there, done that already!

Not much progress recently I'm afraid, though I've now finished college, have a lovely little daughter and a new/different career. Will try to update with an engine build soon.

Just finished drawing up all the plans for my 1/8th next project too - it's huge! Very different to the Porsche - much older, much faster, American and has 16 cylinders! Can you guess what it is yet? :o)
