1999 TdeC/Rally France
I am trying to find details of event specific decals on the cars for the '99 running of the TdeC.
Although Tamiya did the Subaru of that event, it appears they missed a decal on the front edge of the door plates. possibly FFSA . (So did Autoart in their 1/18 scale diecast.) I am actually researching the McRae Focus for that event and the '99 Catalunya car. Does anyone have any good quality side on shots of the Focus at that event? thanks Mal |

Re: 1999 TdeC/Rally France
I don't have much from 99 TdC in my hard drive and nothing HD...
on most pics it's hard to see if there is always the sticker over rally plate... not sure it is btw... (??) but if some have it all should have it too... On the following McRae pic it's clearely visible don't know if it helps but I can't give a sure answer myself... |

Re: 1999 TdeC/Rally France
Unfortunately all my books are packed away as we are in the middle of relocating, so I am relying totally on what I have electronically to try to help you.
It appears that the sticker in question was only on the driver side door plate, which wouldn't be surprising. It also appears that it may not have been on the car during shakedown since I can find photos of the cars from the driver side without it visible. Peugeot appears to have placed the sticker ahead of the number plate: It's clearly visible on Burns' care here: But it's missing here: I tend to agree with your assessment it's likely an FFSA sticker, perhaps applied post shakedown and after the car has been to scrutineering prior to the start of the timed events? You have piqued my curiosity now, I would love to hear what else may be said.

Re: 1999 TdeC/Rally France
Relevant post Freakray !
Didn't realize that my first three pics were codriver views what can explain the lack of sticker. Scrutineering usually takes place before shakedown so all official registrations marks should be in place for shakedown, even if final livery itself can evolute again before first stage. I'm wondering seeing the lack of everything around the car and the strange service in the middle of nowhere if your last Sub' pic isn't from a post-event testing session... even if they shouldn't have kept the race number plate on doors if so. but either do I now, my curiosity makes me feel like finding the truth ! |

Re: 1999 TdeC/Rally France
Thanks guys, seems it not only had me pondering.
Here are a couple of not so good scans of what I have found. First up the initial Burns photo that made me question things. The car I want to make. Note for those thinking of this as well, the Hertz sticker under the wing mirror became yellow after Portugal. Definitely FFSA with something underneath. Not like it was the previous year. Then just to show people why you need photos of the actual car you are making. Sainz on the door plate But Auriol in front of and higher And finally one which later tonight I hope to have a hi-def photo. Sent a mate an eps file I can't open of this shot. He will convert to jpeg for me. |
