Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24
Looking great. I think the wing is sitting a little too high, acording to the ref pics.

Wow, it is almost perfect now! Great job. I didn't mean for my comments sound like a critique, but I know for myself that if I didn't fix something on a model, it will bug me forever. I'm sure you feel the same way now too!
Wing looks great, can't wait to see this thing in paint!

All your notes are very useful for me. I have already corrected another little mistake I made in the position of the rear wing, cause in these pics is too high, so I lowered it of almost 5mm. In the upcoming pictures I place the end of the wing at the same level of the roof (even if in the real car is really an impressive tall wing). The body is going on...and for the next week I should receive the decal sheet (done with Alps) Also right now I am placing the 4 blades in the front end, the car is starting to be similar to the pictures... I hope the challenge goes on...I am also curious to see if it will come nice ..or disappear in the night

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24
always always thank u all guys.
Your support is very important while the work goes on I lowerd the rear wing, cutting the base of about 5 mm, and replacing the rear holes lower of anoter 3 mm. Now the line with the roof is correct. The following step was to recreate (even in alu) the thin blades inside the wheel archs. They change from race to race, as well as the 4 little front wings near the main engine and brakes air intake. I choosed the combination seen this year in Mugello race, also cause I simply love that track and its location in Tuscany (when u can guys..go there, is the real Italy, incredibly nice, and people is mad about cars..) The small bolts are done with a punch and die set, using 0.15 sheet styrene. Also door handles are now in position, they look definitely better than original die cast ones. After the final primer shade, the body is now ready to paint (wanna study something cool with Gunze colors, the ones I prefer instead than one of the many Tamiya Ts-can colors, that always are a challenge when sprayed from can cause pressure mess)...even if from germany my decals will ever arrive the challenge goes on

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24
always thank u for the compliments guys.
Really helpful support during the work, really. I've made a first test (with paper) for the side windows. There is still some adjustment to do (wanna delete that black triangle in mirror side) and design a little better the rear air intakes. ..and now is time to add some blue paint on the bmw. I used gunze blue H5 as base, then some metallic blue green H63 as light base for the final metallic blue tone. The final tone come from an Arexons laquer paint (in can) and resprayed all in airbrush, with very light passages. hope u like it

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24
Looks sweet, metallic paint seems to be the hardest for me. With some clear it should look stunning. Keep us posted.
BTW Does anyone know about the e46 m3 that some company was making in resin some time ago? Anyone know anything? |

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24
metallic paint is always a challenge.
Tested several can before use this. Almost all the ones i've test had metallic parts inside too big. This was the one more acceptable for metallic powders size inside blue. Didnt force too much with color cause there is still a lot of work to do with decals (if they will ever arrive from north europe...still here waiting at today),and with the final gloss. We will see what will come The m3 e46 GTR was done as slot car body in 1/24. No idea if somebody ever made the e46 street version in 24th, suspect nobody. Wonder why Tamiya doesnt like this kind of cars and goes on with the Jtcc serie??...doh.

Re: BMW M3 GTR - Campionato Italiano Turismo Endurance 1/24
Great job on this one!
I don't understand Tamiya either, they did some great cars like: 1998 Porsche GT1, Sauber C11 even BMW Z4 as 1/10 RC kits, but not as 1/24 scale detailed kits. Maybe their marketing says that these kits would not sell, but I believe that they might be somewhat wrong. |
