Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

^ u got any evidence of a vtec lude hitting in the 14's? I've seen about 7 seconds to 60 and about 15.5 in the 1320.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

To be honest, no, I don't have a link or anything I can show you...I just remember vaguely reading an article in motor trend a long time ago about the 1996 prelude VTEC and it hitting 0-60 in 6.4 seconds at doing the quarter in 14.8 or 14.9 or something like that...I don't know if I would be able to dig up that article anywhere on google or not.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

1999 Civic Si: 15.7
1996 Civic Dx: 16.7
1995 Prelude VTEC: 15.1
1992 Prelude Si: 15.9
1995 Integra GS-R: 15.2
1994 Integra LS: 15.9

Okay, so 15.1 isn't exactly 14.8 or 14.9...my main point is, everyone on here is all "oh yeah, a 4-gen maxima will easily take any prelude", which is obviously not the case, since their numbers are pretty close

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

Street race, yeah the Max will kill the Lude with it's TQ advantage. Not many street races go to 1/4 mile.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

Agreed. On the street TQ generally owns, you've gotta be a pretty good driver to launch well with high revving motors.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

Only the 2000 and newer years are faster than the 4th and 5th gen preludes. Other than that i don't believe the older maximas are faster.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

well the 2000 maxima's are only faster than the 1995-99 maxima's past 4500-5000 rpm. This is due to the addition of a variable intake manifold and muffler which gives them better top end and the extra 32 peak hp, so believe that the 4th gen Maxima(95-99) is faster at least until then considering that it's the lightest maxima you can get.

Maybe you are on something.

Motor Trend in 95 said this about the 95 Maxima.

The Maxima SE will whip the Nissan 350 ZX, Integra GS-R and the
Taurus SHO in 0 to 60 and quarter - mile acceleration.

0 to 60 in 6.6
1/4 - 15.2 @ 92.4 - mph.
83g skidpad
65.1 mph slalom run.

BTW, Ive never read a 6.4 0 to 60 for any
prelude in Motor Trend.

It might be a close race between the Maxima and prelude,
but Ive never read any times for the prelude that are better
than the Maximas.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

Look, in a street race, torque determines the winner. Honda produces torqueless, high RPM engines. The reason why the Prelude quarter mile time is close to the Maxima is because they continue to make power beyond 5K RPMs, where the 4th gen starts having problems breathing.

And besides, if my auto 4th gen can whip 5spd Preludes, the 5spd 4th gen should smother it like an unwanted infant...

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

I've raced Preludes in my 2k and my 2k3 and in both especially from standing start it was no sweat.

You have to watch out for Ludes at high speed where that Vtec is really in it's powerband, it can roll fast but still it is no match for the Max.

Re: 5 spd Maxima vs. 5 spd Prelude.

2000 and newer maxima without question will beat a 4th and 5th gen prelude.

95-99 maxima depends on the driver in order to beat or lose to a 4th and 5th gen prelude.

95-99 Maxima's run the same 0-60 and 1320 times as a 2000-2001. The 5th gens had 32 more hp, but this was negated by a couple hundred newfound pounds. The TQ advantage owns in this case.

Is that a fact? I thought it was different. I'm just saying cuz you might actually be right.
