you need to have the car code scanned and Auto Zone should be able to do that for free on your car. A scanner can reset the light, but it is wise to know why the light came on.

Re: 2001 325i service engine soon light
This light reminds you that the car is due for service. I found the instructions below on how to reset the light. I've never done this manual procedure since I have the reset tool but try see if it works. Good luck!
To reset the indicator: -The car should be off -hold down the left instrument button (the trip odometer reset) -while holding the key, turn the ignition to position 1 (radio) -you will see a test menu -keep holding the button -after maybe 10 seconds, the word "reset" will appear -let go of the button and press again -THe indicator is reset! |

Re: 2001 325i service engine soon light
Hello Venzon,
What you described is how to reset the maintenance interval. The problem that smokey27 is having is due to a problem with an emissions system component. The only way to reset this is to identify the problem with an ODBII scanner, fix it, and reset the code with the scanner. Anthony Quote:

I say take it to the dealer you might throw the sensor off track, mines comes on because of the cold air intake and the chip that was put in by the Diani group, and it's been coming on and i'm getting tired of it. everytime i give it so speed it comes on. I drive a 330I four door BMW .
