Post How many miles (average) do BMWs last?

I'm wondering because I have been told it is not uncommon for them to run past 200,000 miles. I am considering buying a 99' 323 in excellent condition, but with 160,000 miles on it.

totally depends on the engine and how the car was driven...

i have seen them over 300k miles myself, but Menu dei Motori is right, it depends on how the car was cared for.

i personally would not buy a car with that many miles on it unless it was a classic or a very, very good price!

how much is it going for?

Re: How many miles (average) do BMWs last?

I drive my BMW hard almost every day.. 214 miles a day and once a week I like to hold it to the floor and see what it could do.. cuts out at 129 miles per hour.. I have 369,000 miles on an 89 325i.. I bought it with 177,000 and the only thing I do is change the oil every 5,000 miles.... never changed the plugs, or wires and I run on 87 gas, the cheep stuff..

Re: How many miles (average) do BMWs last?

wow man. thats hard!

i run premium in my e30, and i have changd the plugs to the bosch platinum +4's. unfortunetly, i have never been able to open up to over 100mph because the cops up here are always on my a$$!!

bimmers from the the e30 era are technically limited to 122mph, glad to see it can run somewhat higher than that!

how long have u had ure e30?

Thumbs up Re: How long do they last?...

Seems to me that many miles on a '99 model is a bit much over the national average (12,000 miles/year)...even a SoCal average(24,000).

My '83 320i just turned to 360K on the odometer...yet it still runs great. Though the engine has been rebuilt, it still has over 100K on a stock M-10. I'm its third owner. Bought it from a helicopter mechanic who kept it well-maintained.

For about 2½ years i drove between 75 and 150 miles a day. Sometimes over 200 a day. Since a rearrangement of schedules at the first of September i now drive between 60 and 75 average, getting about 27.5 to 28.5 MPG.

Just need to replace the backup light switch, fix my aux fan, install a new O2 sensor and maybe reinstall the fog lights...then she'll be back as new. Hopefully with a little better gas mileage with the new 02 sensor.

Re: How many miles (average) do BMWs last?

I aked the dealer about changing the pulgs to the platinum ones and he said the car would not run right.... I have a 94 325I and it would not run with the platinum pulgs in.. it had a miss and would sometimes stall at red lights... the plugs were new, so I didn't think that was the problem, the dealer changed them and the car runs great

Wow, that is pretty good. It's hard to drive a BMW "easy." I'm glad you got such a great car and it is great to hear that you have 369,000 miles on it and it pumps out 129 miles per hour.

aack!!! don't put platinum plugs in an e30... if my memory serves me right that can have bad results. I'll get back to you on that. The reason he made it to 129 was because speedos are generally pretty innacurate at such high speeds.

Re: How many miles (average) do BMWs last?

Hi Everyone,

My 1990 325i that I bought yesterday has 88,600 miles on it. I guess I have a lot of fun ahead of me according to all these long running beemers. By the way, does anyone know what the "s" gear is (I assume it means "sport")?

Thanks,

Lazaro

Re: How many miles (average) do BMWs last?

Good miliage for a 90...

We've had cars come into my dealership with well over the 150k mark, and none of them anywhere near the age of the E30s. Hell, we had a 98 E36 come in yesterday with 120k on the clock, no major problems at all. The window motor crapped out.
