91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
I just want to make sure here. The metro has the 12 inch rims currently. There are 13's at the salvage yard here. the 12's are listed as 12 x 4 but I want to upgrade to the 13 x 4.5. From what I was reading on here, the pattern is actually the same correct, I just need to upgrade the studs to 12 mm. Am I correct in this thinking?

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
That's the ideal solution. There are special lug nuts that fit on the smaller studs but have a larger outside diameter to make up the difference, that's a simpler solution. Some guys just put them on with the lug nuts they already have and say it works fine. I wouldn't do that, but many have.

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
What wheels can be swapped out for this car? I have the 12in. wheels too. Do I have to find 4 lug Geo's or are there other car models that can be swapped out?

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
Many cars come with wheels that would fit, some will fit with minor issues. Best bet is to get wheels from a 95-01 Metro or 89 - 01 Swift, they will be 13", or from a Swift GTI, they will be 14". Now you have to start thinking about tire size and what the effect will be on your gear ratio, hundreds of choices here.

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
I also own a 1990 Geo Metro and would like to upgrade to a 13" rim, or even a 14" rim. I'm having trouble finding a 13" with the same 4 x 4.5 bolt pattern, but I've found 14". Has anybody gotten away with this on a Geo Metro, and will clearance be an issue? thanks.

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
I've got 195/50-15's on 6.5" rims on mine. The GTI, a high performance version of the same car, came with 185/60-14's. That's a very nice size that will fit with no issues at all.

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
I replaced my 185/70R-13's with some Kumho Solus HP P185/60R-14's mounted on some nice Konig wheels. Do I need to multiply my miles driven by a small percentage to figure my MPG?
If anyone is interested in upgrading their 12in wheels to 13's, I have 4 of them. They have P185/70R-13 Mohave R/S tires mounted on them. They only have 5000 miles on them. Made for Discount Tire by Kelly. I'll include the original Geo 4 spoke hub caps and a set of 12 or 13 hole after market hub caps I purchased a couple of years ago. Also included is 12, still new in the packages (3 pks of 4) Gorilla acorn lug nuts from Sumit Racing. For 10mm studs. These wheels came off of my 1993 Metro Lsi Convertible. |

Go to the dealer with $1000 or go to a junkyard with $100.

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
I was able to get the lugnuts that fit the 13'' wheels at my local tire store. They are 10mm x 1.25 thread.

Re: 91 Geo Metro 5 door 12 inch rims
I recently had a blow out and I could not find 12" tires to save my life! So...I went down to the junk yard and found some 13" wheels from a Hyundai that fit perfectly!! The wheels were $12 a piece and the 13" tires were $33 a piece. It's amazaing how more smoothly the car rides!!
