Scouts are bona fide!

I cant believe more people arent talking about scouts. They are bona fide.

I had a 1971 Scout II 4x4 with a 345. It couldnt be stopped. I remember doing some things in my scout that i wouldnt dare do in todays (or yesterdays) 4x4's. Jumping over stuff and running over small trees... No limit to what you can put one through.

One of my all time favs.

They are certainly a bargain compared to early Broncos!

+1.

They are better than the broncos simply because you can afford to go out and do some real "wheelin" in a scout. Most of the hopped up broncos ive seen cost so much the owners didnt want to do much real 4 wheelin. My scout couldnt be stopped. I miss it...

I personally like the model II's, but the smaller 60's models with the 152 c.i.d. (if i remember right) 4 banger are good on gas, and can climb up surfaces you cant go up on foot.

It sounds like you are (or were recently) in the market for one, if so grab it up.

Re: Scouts are bona fide!

I had a '77 with the auto tranny, it was fun to stop while going up a hill and have who ever was following try and get restarted. It pulled a lot of friends vehicles out once they broke, and if it broke I seemed to be able to drive it home, sometimes with a short piece of chain strung between two pieces of rope to hold up the twisted drive shaft, but no tow bills.

Re: Scouts are bona fide!

I agree that Scouts are much more stout than the Broncos, and also much more affordable. There's also finally some decent aftermarket support . I've got a '67 800 that eats early broncos for breakfast.......
