DRL's never shut off

I'm hoping its just the sensor in the dash. Any ideas on where to get one?

Re: DRL's never shut off

You're sayingbthey never shut off, even when the car is off, or they never shut off when the car is on and started? If it is the latter then that is what they are supposed to do. DRL is daytime running lights and I personally think everyone should run there headlights 24/7. It makes vehicles more visible even during the day.

Sorry I wasn't very clear in my post.
From a cold start at night with the PB on I have no lights, which is correct. Whenever the van is started PB off I have full lighting even with the sun out.

I always thought the headlights and interior where dimmer during the day time.

Re: DRL's never shut off

I must be missing something.....that light sensor, according to my diagram, only controls the DRL's, which are not the headlights, but the front parking lamps....

The headlights are not controlled by the light sensor, only the headlight switch....

If memory serves me correct with DRL's on this vehicle there was only marker lights running until it got dark. Now all of the lights are on.

Re: DRL's never shut off

I don't think your vehicle has automatic headlights, therefore it sounds like a headlight switch problem....the DRL module has nothing to do with the headlights...

Re: DRL's never shut off

WEll...based on my '93 with automatic headlights (and DRL) , when darkness comes, headllights go full with all other position lights and taillights. If this is the same, it looks like your light sensor does not see light anymore....however, I have never verified if parking brake will inhibit auto headlight at night....I'll have a look.....
EDIT: yes, parking brake inhibits automatic headlight ON at night.
p.s. Transport had AUtoHeadlight, but not Chevy Lumina Van

Re: DRL's never shut off

Well, it looks like LMP is correct........I found the owner's manual online, and on page 2-59, it states:

"When the DRL are on, only your front parking and turn signal lamps are on. Your instrument panel will not be lit up.

When it's dark enough outside, the exterior lamps will come on automatically. When it's bright enough outside, the exterior lamps will go out, and the DRL will turn on.

To idle your vehicle with the DRL or exterior lamps off, set the parking brake while the ignition is OFF OR LOCK. Then start the vehicle. The DRL will stay off until you release the parking brake."

So apparently, the DRL module doubles as an auto lamp control.....

So as LMP states, the most logical problem is the light sensor.....if not that it is the DRL module....

Re: DRL's never shut off

Just a quick check......confirm there is nothing hiding the light sensor from daylight upon the dash apron. ON my '93, it is located within the left loudspeaker opening, under the grille.

Re: DRL's never shut off

After thinking about what I posted I didn't post the problem correctly. It's not my DRL's but my main lights both front and rear that do not shut off. Normally in the day time the DRL's will be on but not the head lights. During the day the lights are all on all the time.
I'm thinking because the car has been sitting for a while the sensor in the dash has become opaque and its not sensing the ambient light. I'll pull it and polish it. I'll let you know what happens.

Re: DRL's never shut off

INdeed..see what it gives...
...and if no success, then if you can pull the sensor from its place , disconnect it from the socket, and insert a wire (or, more elegant, a 1000 ohm resistor) from one pin to the other in the socket. THis will SIMULATE DAYLIGHT...AND THE headlights should extint.

Put a jumper in place of the sensor, no joy.
