Vw Mk1 Scirocco engine bay / detailed pics needed

Hello,

for a next scalemodeling project I'm looking for detailed pics of the engine bay, steering system, ... from an Mk1 Scirocco.

For scale modelers around , I plan the 1/24 AMT Scirocco + Clearlyscale Gti engine + ScaleProduction 16' BBS

I'll set that ClearlyScale engine in and it will need a lot of scratchbuilding and fitting. So, I'll be very happy with any detailed pics. You can post them into this thread or PM me and I'll give you my email address. Thanks.

Off course, I did google that query but got nothing really interesting.

Thanks anyway

Re: Vw Mk1 Scirocco engine bay / detailed pics needed

A few observations:

1. The AMT Scirocco is 1/25 scale, which looks tiny. Most of the tuner wheels/tires that fit more modern 1/24 models look HUGE on the Scirocco. Anything more than a 14" wheel intended for 1/24 scale is going to look goofy on the Scirocco. The stock Scirocco wheels in the kit look so tiny you think they're 1/32 scale! Those 16" BBS wheels look great, but they'll look like 20's on this Scirocco kit. Unless you are looking for the "Donk" appearance, see if you can find some nice 13's/14's in your parts box or from vendors. I think SP has some 13's that might be perfect.

2. Clearly Scale is supposedly working on revising the AMT Scirocco into 1/24 scale...which would be awesome. But promises of car kits, not parts, from them keep getting pushed to the future. I'm surely a customer, if I don't get bored during the looong wait. The Vector and AMX 3 are model car grails...but they're only barely started doing wheels, seats, and some engines. This reminds me...I need to order some parts for my VW projects

3. I'll bet Revell's current Mk.1 GTI would be a great basis for more detail to the AMT, if you can get around the scale difference.

4. Have fun! I have the Scirocco kit, and it's being reissued...so there's at least one in my future.

I know what you mean but disagree on wheels sizes. This is my Kit w/scale 16s and I think they look fine. (not donk'd at all)

Re: Vw Mk1 Scirocco engine bay / detailed pics needed

Thanks for your comments.

Here is a quick pic (sorry for the quality and bad lighting) of the rims. I agree they look more as 17' than 16' but they look great in my opinion. They don't look oversized but all opinions are welcome. Spokes painted pure white as the car body with a chromed lip sound like a good combo.

About ClearlyScale, I placed my first order recently (Seats + 3 Gti engines ... ) and have nothing bad to say about this website. Communication was great and I received my parts quite quick even if I'm in Europe. I did not know the site before so can't judge if he's refreshing his catalog often. I like what I found there and could buy again if he proposes more Vw themed parts.

Both Revell Golf kits should be under the Xmas tree, that's why I ordered 3 engines ...
And yes, I plan to have fun. I haven't started any over-detailed project since my Mk3 Vr6 I posted a while back and i'm impatient to start

Have you checked out http://forums.vwvortex.com/forumdisplay.php?13-Scirocco

Sorry this is the only engine bay photo I have. I have a couple dozen Scirocco photos for reference but this is the only engine bay.

I agree slightly smaller wheels would look better IMO. But i think 14-15s will look good enough for my taste. Good luck.......and nice to see you building again! I myself am planning on getting clearlyscales seats for a mkiv build.

Deedlit! Where you been at?

I don't have much to offer other than, what about Eightyone's BBS?

http://www.eightyone81.com/rm005-ssr...a-mesh-rimset/

Sorry, not BBS but SSR, so ok if you're going for the look but I realize you're going for the legit miniature. But these wheels are quite small and it's easy to modify the lip to make work. Check my bB thread (where I mis-identified them, again!) to get an idea of their size http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul....php?t=1088396

Re: Vw Mk1 Scirocco engine bay / detailed pics needed

Thanks all for advising. I'll try some other rims from my stock and will post some pics during w-e.

I've not been far from AF but did not post at all . I did read lots of threads , saw lots of impressive models but did not share my latest builds. Certainly because I've not done very popular kits with lots of impressive modifications and was a bit embarassed to show them to the all world of modeling including the most talented modelers I've ever seen.

I built an old 1/48 CGGC kit of Golf Mk1, just for the fun. It's more a toy than a model but it's tiny and nice. I built Fujimi's Golf Mk2 with 17' resin BBS, not from ScaleProduction and then of very low quality but I love his look anyway. I just finished Revell Deal's Wheels van, fun to build in these bright colours. But most of all, I participated in the making of a 1/50 scale mining scene for Caterpillar Belgium's family day (end Sept). I did it with my colleagues and made all the paint, paint effects, flocking, ... but all the models are from their collection. I don't have any CAT machine.

Sorry for the huge pic ...
