Cam position sensor removal

THis sensor is probably not a factor in my case...I changed the crank sensor, as per adjacent thread...but I have a new cam sensor at hand and would simply "like" to install it. However the problem is simply to remove the single bolt that keeps it there....it has been there for 22 years now..never removed before....and a steel screw planted in aluminium casting is probably "seized" from electrolysis between different metals. The screw head is obviously a 9 mm and it is very hard to keep the socket in place while applying torque and in addition I am kind of afraid it could also break off if I happen to have success with some rotation....
So...I consider to keep the cam sensor in its nice little box....
any thoughts on that ?
By the way....in another thread is had been said the bolts used with the balancer puller are 6mm with 1mm thread. No...this is really too small and in fact the GM manual says 1/4 in, which were used in this case.

Re: Cam position sensor removal

The bolt usually isn't the problem......it's getting the sensor out.....it usually breaks apart, especially if you pry up on the tab the bolt goes though......removing the PS pump is a necessity....

Thanks.....maybe in some other versions of the 3.8 in cars other than the TS....the PS pump is really not a problem here...totally out of the way.
I'll work on that....

Re: Cam position sensor removal

..if not broken, don't fix it.....so, I kept the original cam sensor, not wanting for unnecessary problem. All is back to normal now that the crank sensor has been replaced: no more misses and hickups.
