Air conditioning clutch rattling
My air conditioner clutch is rattling and the pulley is loose. My mechanic says there's not enough threads on it to do the required work. Are there any tricks that can help in this situation?

Re: Air conditioning clutch rattling
Your pulley bearing is toast. Your mechanic is most likely wrong- I've changed a few thousand of these- never had "too little threads"- You need a new pulley bearing- or perhaps just change the whole compressor- Your transport is probably mid to low 90s model- so if your a/c still works- opt for a new or used compressor. I change the pulley/clutch combo normally- but lots of mechanics do not have the proper tools.

Re: Air conditioning clutch rattling
Just change the pulley bearing is what I would do..but I doubt your mechanic has the specialized a/c compressor tools...like the clutch hub puller, or the pulley puller tools..You can buy the pulley bearing at most parts stores...

Re: Air conditioning clutch rattling
London GB or London Ontario?
Yeah..same happened to my '93 very early in its life. Pulley bearing was changed on warranty at the time.

Re: Air conditioning clutch rattling
Ontario. Wasn't able to get the clutch off and ended up replacing the compressor.
