Question A/C compressor replacement

Ok... following in my quest to fix my '94 TS, I discovered why it was giving out codes for QDM1 and QDM4. Checked what's in those circuits: A/C (that doesn't work), cruise speed (that doesn't work), and other niceties (that I thought were Ok). Decided to explore a little further, and lo and behold the 15 Amp fuse in the convenience center was blown. After replacing it, and for the first time in almost a year, the CEL if off , and the cruise control is back (running like crap, but it's there). Hopefully this will save someone some investigation time...

Anyway... A/C was still not working, and I remember seeing some cut cables in the area. So I decided to check a bit more, and I found the compressor has been replaced with an idler pulley

I really need A/C in that car but funds are short, so I'd like to get one from the junkyard. Is it a realistic alternative? The main question is: are there other -more recent- cars with compatible compressors?

A/C compressor replacement

Has anyone changed the compressor at home?
How long it will it take?

Re: A/C compressor replacement

I managed to change the compressor myself, no big problems actually.
I remove the ignition coils and the bracket, and 3 bolts for the compressor. Then you lift it up.

Re: A/C compressor replacement

Does anyone know how much oil you can pour in to the compressor (HR6 model) and the system?
I read 240ml somewhere, Compressor "add" 60ml, Accumulator 105ml, Evaporator 90ml, Condenser 30ml.
I have emptied compressor and changed accumulator but for rest of system i dont know how much oil there is left.
So is more better?

It looked a bit dry in the tubes so I filled up with 8 oz, Ester Oil, with U/V Dye.

Re: A/C compressor replacement

New filter and o-rings, and a test with a can of compressed air from Biltema, showed that everything worked fine.
I left the car to a garage for the first fill so that I got everything checked right.

And yes! it works great. 6.9 degrees in mid-air exhaust.
