Saw a 300ZX in action! It's official, I'm obsessed!

I was riding with my mom in her 280ZX looking at the car dealerships (looking for a car to get for me, I'm 16), and as soon as we turn, I see some sinister looking headlights appear in the rear-view mirror. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew it was something cool. As soon as it drove past us, I knew it was the car that has had my eyes for the past few months: The Z32. I knew they were fast but I had never tested one before. When the driver stepped on the pedal, the tires screeched for about a couple tenths of a second, and that bad boy flew! It must have been a TT, because it took off so quickly. I'm officially obsessed with the car now, and I see why everyone praises it. I'll buy my own one day, but they're pretty rare around here, so for right now, I'll settle with the 350Z or Corvette. Whoever you were, I hope you're reading this, because I'm going to find you, and you'll be smelling my exhaust fumes next time, when I blow the dust off twin turbo ass!

Whoa...your 16 and your gonna get a Vette or a 350Z? Number one...your gonna kill yourself b/c neither of those cars are suitable for a kid to drive...your gonna kill yourself or others w/the mentality you are displaying here. These are high HP RWD sports cars and definitely should be treated w/respect and definitely not put in the hands of newbie who just got his license and the ink isnt even dry yet on it...and here u come jumpin in a 300HP+ RWD sports car demon and god knows what will happen...

Number 2...these cars arent cheap (350Z $26-$34k & the Vette starts at $38k)...so what are you going to have to strive for later in your life when you start out w/such a nice car?

I dont mean to rag or hassle you...I just want you to live to be able to smoke Z32's if that is what you desire...personally go smoke some V8 muscle cars...those should be your target...not fellow Nissan's like the Z32...especially if your wielding a 350Z.

Just take it easy and lets see if we can get you into a cheap, fast sports car that wont kill you...so rapidly!

cheap, fast sports car that wont kill him so rapidly, a Z31 turbo
It's not as fast as the Z32 but it is very fun to drive. It is comparable to a mustang GT in terms of performance.

Or a 280zx turbo even

I'm kinda wanting a Z31 turbo, but I just like the I6 a bit more than the V6... *shrugs*

Hey, it's not like I'm buying the car, my parents are. Otherwise I'd have to wait about 5-6 six years before I could purchase one.

Sure, I could get a regular Mustang, Eclipse, or Celica, but I have the opportunity to get almost any car that I want up the 40K range. I figure, I might as well take advantage, since I want to keep my first car forever I should go ahead and get one of the cars that I've been dreaming about. My parents would probably think that I was crazy if I didn't.

To be honest, I would much rather own a Z32. But, I know that I'd be putting a lot of money into it, so I'll wait a few years for that.

Thanks for showing concern about my safety, with me being a young teen and all. But don't worry, I'm a very responsible person, and I don't plan on going over the speed limit (unless I'm on a lonely desert road), or doing anything that'll get me killed. When my dad was my age, he owned a Chevelle SS, and bought a Corvette a couple of years later. He still owns them both, and is doing pretty well financially, and I plan to do the same. Besides, I have to, if I ever want to put my feet in a Murcielago or XJ220.

Yeah, when my mom gets her new car, I'm pretty sure that she'd let me work on here 280ZX. It's not a turbo, but I could probably put one on after restoring it to it's original beauty.

Yea, you could pick up a whole 280zx turbo engine for pretty cheap... or go the ultimate route... SBC V8 *drools* :P

I would probably take a well tuned V8 Z over a Z32 300zx...

Well...you do SOUND responsible...but SOUNDING responsible and ACTING responsible are 2 different things. I just hope for everyone's sake...including yours...that you put your morals and principles into practice and exercise this self control you have. And just on the fun side...let me list some other good sub 40K cars that I think you should consider:

Audi S4

Subaru WRX STi (when it comes out soon)

Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII (when it comes out)

Ford Cobra (390HP...you just cant ignore that) (wait I dont want u killed...sorry...lol)

Honda S2K (still a great car and w/money leftover for wheels...lol)

Yeah, I've never been a troublemaker. I did go the ford dealership to look at the Cobras, but they only had one in yellow, and weren't getting anymore. Yellow's not a bad looking color, it's just that I'd much rather have a blue, black red, or white SVT. If I were to get a yellow car, I'd want a Trans Am.

Grendel, I'm glad to hear somebody else is concerned about engine design.

A Z31 would probably be great for you. Handling is good, power is reasonable. If you hold on to the car for a while and get mod-happy, it's a great car. I've often considered getting an 87-89 Turbo, just haven't seen one around for sale. I'm a turbo guy, so the N/A cars are out. The 280ZX turbo would be nice too. I've also considered those, but I can't find one with a manual tranny.

As for the Z32, you'll probably be more than happy with an N/A. Without putting a lot of money into it, you can get 280-300 hp out of it, which is the stock output of the twin turbo, without turbo lag. That's more than you'll ever need. Still, as a first car, you'll probably want something more forgiving. A smaller car, like maybe... a Pulsar NX??? I dunno, some people seem to be fanatical about them.

Of course, I'm expecting to get 300 hp out of my CA18DET, so I guess my Pulsar isn't much more forgiving... especially when it weighs 1100 lbs. less than the Z. My point: get something you don't mind tearing up and keep it stock for a while. You need to get accustomed to driving before you take on a turbocharged monster like the Z32. Some people recommend starting with a FWD car, others RWD all the way. I don't think it really matters; if you end up driving a FWD you have to learn it, same with RWD.

Ah, I don't really care what you get, just make sure it's a Nissan.

I really love the 240SX fastbacks. There's a used car dealership right across the street from the place that has the Corvettes, and they have one, in white, I believe. Couldn't tell how many miles were on it, but it looks to be in decent condition, and the interior seems to have been taken care of as well. I probably have enough money saved up to go pay cash for the car. I probably won't get that, though, because I'm planning to purchase a Honda (Z?) 600 for $400. I want to turn that into a show car.

I could easily find a N/A Z32 around here, but like I said, I want to keep my first car forever, so I'd have to get a Twin Turbo, or I don't think I'd be happy. There's no way I'm forking out all of that cash to get it converted to TT later on.

The sellsmen around here have been acting screwy with their 350Z preorders, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to get one. I would really prefer that over the Corvette, but I might not have a choice.

Hehe, I'll sell you mine... I've only driven it 10k miles (total mileage is 160k), fixed the leaky injectors, and its never been raced How bout it?

Beaters huh...hmmm

So what cars do you more expericened ppl think a newbie to driving should get. I have my moms old 89' Mercury Tracer but its not drivable right now. So do think an Acura Integra is ok? I mean if i can't get a '94 300ZX TT then i might as well get a nice looking car which is also modable (no RICE ofcourse, heh dont worry) and will last me untill after or during college when im more experienced. then comes my fairlady Z hopefully.
