Trans wailing sound in reverse. 97 1500 auto
Hello,
I have been reading many posts regarding Dodge's transmission issues. It appears I could burn the better part of a day reading.... What I need to know is why a 97 1500 with an automatic wails like some pissed off banshee when it is put into reverse. After backing out of a parking spot the truck will stall when shifting into drive. Forward gears seem ok. This only happens when it is cold however. Any ideas? Thank you Last edited by alex655321; 12-30-2004 at 03:16 PM. |

Re: Trans wailing sound in reverse. 97 1500 auto
I think that some damn valve gets stuck easy. I had problems with mine (99 RAM 3500), especially with the R gear. I had the fluid & filter changed, flushed, and used Lucas fluid additive, and the problem was corrected. I wouldn't wait to service it! Mine also was more pronounced when it was cold. It made no unusual sound but just would take up to ten seconds to shift into R. Then it shifted real hard. It's been 18 mo.s since and no problem since.

It goes into reverse just fine. Which valve are you talking about?
