ever heard of a prelude SSR?

I own a '93 Prelude, and it is listed on the title as being an SSR. The person I bought it off of had looked into it and told me that he found that the SSR's were a short lived Canada-only Prelude (about 300 produced) with loaded options (6 disc changer, leather, keyless), and one option i found odd, it has a positraction front differential. I know for a fact it has a positrac trans, but i didn't know if the rest was true or not. Can anyone verify one way or the other for me?

surprise.
canada had some oddball cars.
they've got sir's, and sr's, etc.
nothing different than what we've got.

That sounds familiar for some reason.

Re: ever heard of a prelude SSR?

i don't know why i didn't think to do this before... I ran the vin and it showed up as an SR. So I guess someone just goofed at the title office. Oh well. Still doesn't explain the locking differential. As far as I knew that was never an option. It may just be a Canada thing, b/c of all the snow, or they all have them.

how do you know it has a locking differential? If it does it must be swapped in, not from the factory.

I know for a fact it is locking for two reasons: 1-when on the snow, the front wheels will both always spin. if one looses traction, the other will still hook up or will also spin. unlike a non-locking, which will spin one tire and let the other one set. 2-I put new axles on a couple of weeks ago and i was wondering how the locking dif worked, so i droped out the trans (note: hope to never do that again, it wasn't as easy as I had hoped) and I gutted some of it out. it actually has a centrifical clutch lookin deal that i imagine grabs under increased rpm/reduced traction. well just like "realtime 4 wheel" drive stuff works. also, it is a honda trans. I am unsure if it is the trans that it came from the factory with, but it is a honda genuine part. I called my local Honda shop, and they didn't know what i was talking about. Kinda a mystery. Oh well, I hope it never goes bad... the damn thing hooks up like hell :o)

Re: ever heard of a prelude SSR?

I was looking more into the anomoly, and I think it could be possible someone put an lsd in the factory trans. I haven't seen any for sale for a lude, but they sell them for rsx's

Quaife sells them for the lude. It's a clutch type LSD. Not too uncommon.
