Fuel pump connector and Delphi vs AC Delco

The Delphi fuel pump that I bought for my 2002 Blazer 4 door comes with a new flatter GT280 connector which requires that you cut in to the wiring harness of the Blazer and replace the existing square 4 pin connector. Is this the preferred approach? Do all replacement fuel pumps have this "new" connector or do some of them come with the connector that I have?

Also, is there any difference between a fuel pump that is labeled Delphi vs one that is lableld AC Delco?

Both brands are good. As for the connector, they are hit or miss - some give you a new connector, others use the old one. If it comes with the new connector, then yes you have to splice into the harness on your truck. It's very easy, and the fuel pump comes with colour coded instructions as to which wires to splice together. Don't forget to heat shrink the but connectors with a lighter. Do this while the tank is on the floor, preferably a couple meters away from your lighter.

I would advise a line splice with solder, then shrink tubing. Always replace the connector if provided with a replacement. This is a weak link in the fuel pump circuit, and the reason that the connector was redesigned.

Thanks. The job is finished, here are a few things that I learned.

AC Delco is the electronic parts division of GM, still is. Delphi used to be one of their many suppliers. They were a major supplier of fuel pumps so many AC Delco pumps = Delphi. Delphi may have been dropped in the last round of restructuring so they may not be the same animal in the future. For my Blazer I looked at an AC Delco and a Delphi branded pump and they appeared the same so I bought the Delphi and saved over $100. The new connector is now used on the 3 pumps that I looked at:

AC Delco
Delphi
Airtex

so it appears to be a permanent change as stated above. Cutting the wiring harness looks like a good, forward compatible move. Definitely use solder and shrink wrap.

Don't use anything but AC Delco/Delphi unless you want problems. Most people here say that Airtex, Carter, etc are crap and will be coming back out in weeks or months.
