Question To buy or not to buy a 2007 Dodge Nitro?

I'm so confused about the '07 Dodge Nitro. Many say it's a gas pig and a lemon, to stay away, and then just as many say they absolutely love love love their Nitros.... I found a beauty at Car Canada in Ottawa, '07 in bright blue, with brand new tires, and alternating 2wd or 4wd. The tires are inflated with nitrogen. There are 97,000 km on it and they're asking $12,400. It was a trade in for an upgrade. How bad is it on gas compared to other similar style SUV's, say a Ford Escape or a Santa Fe? I fully expect to spend more on gas now that I'm upgrading from a 2.2 litre- 4 cylinder engine in my Chevy Cavalier to an SUV...

A Dodge Nitro inflated with nitrogen sounds like a time bomb. lol

And to me that is exactly what any Dodge is no matter how good the gas mileage,,,

I am just one negative, hope you get some positive posts.

Simply put ... the Nitro is crap! Read any car or consumer magazine report on it. It's one of very few vehicles that is unanimously slammed.
The interior is as cheap as they come. You'll have squeaks and rattles that can never be fixed.
It's electrical system is a disaster. And mechanically, it's slow, sucks up gas and spends more time in the shop than on the road.
Buy anything else. You'll be grateful you did. I'm car sales manager for over 10 years.

The choice completely depends upon the use you are going to make with this car. Its not suitable for heavy duty work therefore if you are purchasing as a family car, its not a good choice. But if you are purchasing to get the luxury look, it’s a nice option for you…
