Well, to give you an idea of what they've got for power...
A 95 Supercoupe Thunderchicken has... 3.8liter V6 230hp @ 4400rpm 330ft-lbs @ 2500rpm 3600lbs 0-60 in 7.0 1/4 mile in 15.2 They're decently cool. You're in LA? You should run Terminal Velocity's '93 5.0 Thunderchicken. Come on... you know you want to.

It won't be fair till he has the shift kit in, and probably the gears... he can't compare with the powerhouse that is the Maxima j/k, maxs are actually pretty quick.
The Supercoupes were nice, but they weighed as much as the 5.0 birds as well. The Turbocoupes OTHO weighed a bit more than a Mustang, and had serious potential out of those little engines

Yep. The old turbo 2.3 four. What a great little powerplant. I love seeing 5.0's dusted by people with the SVO turbo 'Stang. Performance and progression, such a great combo.
T-Birds. Hmm. There just don't seem to be any up here with manual trannies. Though it would be cool to show up at a club race with a boulevard bruiser like that. Though with that overboosted powersteering I'd think I'd give up too much road feel to do much good. (I'm spoiled. Layla has no powersteering, just the arms of her driver and two skinny Dunlop tires)

There are lots of 5 speed turbocoupes. Try looking on Ebay, just look for thunderbird, sort by price and look in the $1000-$3000 range.

I guess i should clarify that...
the turbo charged 4 cylinders were in the 80s Tbirds and the Supercharged 6 cylinders were in the 90s Tbirds. Just saying... incase anybody was confused... hehe

Yeah, don't go thinking turbos are a strictly import thing, Olds had a starfire turbo back in the 60s, and Chevy had a turbo corvair.
In the 80s, the SVO mustang had a turbo 2.3 liter DOHC 4 cylinder, and it was lined up to replace the 5.0 engine for the top of the line engine. Turns out the market was for smallblock V8s, so they never went through with it. Too bad, the car was lightweight, handled very well... the only downside were the headlights.

It WILL BE INTERESTING
I just got the Supercharger yesterday, I just got to save some money to get it installed now, The supercharger on our MAX's give a significant gain to a stock maxima, somewhere around 260 hp at the wheel, and with my lil mods, IT should be an interesting battle next time, I was thinking og going turbo but I couldn't wait to save up another Grand...

Biggest problem with all but the SC and TC birds is the tranny, very wide ratio gears, 3rd kills ya. My 0-60 is 6.63 my quarter is ??.???
I'll take ya on, but with forced induction on an already fast car, i'll most likeley loose, ,but hey, whatever....A race is a race

Can you hear that 5 speed auto? It's calling your name... I guess I should investigate the differences in bellhousings before I go off on that
Anyhow, speaking of Turbo birds, you need a new dif, and the turbocoupes had 3.73s...

That's an idea, but they require some serious work to get past 300hp, and they still weigh 3400 lbs. Better to stick with the 5.0, especially if you're going to get into building engines
You still haven't gotten into the internals of the 5.0, just think of what you could do with 11:1 compression and a good set of twisted wedge heads... Or, conversely, a turbo 5.0! Not hard to do at all, and the MAF system is very turbo friendy.

I actually own a 1990 Cougar XR-7 supercoupe which is basically the same thing as the Thunderbird supercoupe with just some cosmetic differences as well as the Ford-Mercury thing... but anyway... yeah this thing has mean amounts of torque, the horsepower isn't all that amazing, but the torque is... for being so goddamn heavy yes this thing does fly, only thing is, the rear end is so so light, which is good and bad, being its RWD... good because that means some really nasty donuts, but bad because its tough to control under not so nice weather conditions with the crazy fishtails and whatnot...
