Amp for 5 13ov2d2's

I think i'm gonna go with the 13ov2d2's from ED so now I need to figure out what to do about an amp. Bumpinstang told me to go with 5 ed.nine.2's and i think it was sr20 that thought i should go with a product from US amps like the USA-3000 because he said i would need to run the subs at .8 ohm and that amp is supposedly stable down to .5 ohm. So does anybody else have an opinion on which would work best or of any other amps? thanks

Re: Amp for 5 13ov2d2's

my suggestion, if you can afford it, is a US Amps DE-3000

if you get the dual 4ohm version you can wire those down to 1.6ohm, the DE-3000 puts out 3000x1 @ 2ohm and it's stable down to 1.5ohm so it should work beautifully, assuming you beef up the electrical system adequately.

he's already built a fiberglass box for 5 12's and doesn't want to trash it

Yeah, he posted about this box and crap a while back. At least he's getting some nice subs. But this is going to cost him so much money in the end. I honestly think he'd save money trashing the box and building a new one for 1 or 2 15"s.

Yeah but what's the volume for each compartment for each sub? He needs to take into account for that and also what kind of car this is to go in.

If done properly, he'll never be able to really listen to it. It will just be another SPL car.

Re: Amp for 5 13ov2d2's

I believe each compartment is a little over 1cf

and what do you mean "If done properly, he'll never be able to really listen to it. It will just be another SPL car."? If done IMPROPERLY that will be the case, if done properly he'll be able to listen to it just fine, they will just be turned down.

Re: Amp for 5 13ov2d2's

I reccomended getting 5 ED nine.2's b/c ED will give a nice fat discount for the amps and all the subs if bought at the same time (I think it was like 1500ish)

Then why put all of them in if he will have them turned down? Seems to me a waste of money.

Re: Amp for 5 13ov2d2's

people like to show off every now and then.. doesnt mean hes gonna always have them as loud as they go..

my sub sounds kinda crappy when i turn it way the hell up.. but that doesnt stop me.. i like listening to it loud and i like showin it off.

HOWEVER.. while im driving most of the time i have it turned down. i keep it at a level that my shitty speakers can keep up with so it sounds good. as do most people who have subwoofers. nobody listens to them full blast every time they get in their car. but its nice to be able to impress some people when the time comes.

it's just headroom, same reason why people buy 500rms amps for their midbasses....*cough*

I do agree that this is a bit excessive, but hey, I'm not the one buying it

Re: Amp for 5 13ov2d2's

so how would 5 ED nine.2's compare to the DE-3000 because the 3000 is about twice as much money

Re: Amp for 5 13ov2d2's

the DE-3000 will draw FAR less power from the electrical system at low to medium volumes, which is where you'll be spending most, if not all of your time. It will also take up a lot less room, if that matters to you, and be a helluva lot easier to wire. It will also give each sub almost double the power.

But the nine.2s are class ab, which supposedly has audibly better sound quality on subs, but I doubt you'd hear the difference without an extremely nice front stage as well.
