repair the sliding door ajar issue - very easy

In my Windstar 98, I always get the door ajar light in my dashboard, because the switch in the sliding door is not working, the van "thinks" that the door is not well closed/open.

The annoying part in this, is that all my dome light and interior light was removed, so that the light don't stay lighted when I quit my vehicle and when I drive.

But I found an easy solution to repair it. Instead of disassemble the sliding door and replace the switch, I found a quicker way to do it.

I solder a wire who connect pin 3 and pin 4 (of the door connector end) together. I solder the connector mounted on the car, not the one in the door. The solder should be flat and very solid. Not a solder ball.
Of course, when the sliding door is open/AJAR, it won't detect it, but I don't care.

the pin out of the door connector is:
1: power lock motor +
2: power lock motor -
3: door AJAR switch +
4: door AJAR switch -

This procedure works on Windstar 95-98 only. It doesn't work on 99-03 models, cause their door switch is located on car body.

Now, I can have all my interior light worked.

A Windstar without having the check engine light is not a real Windstar.

Thumbs up Re: repair the sliding door ajar issue - very easy

Thanks for the tip !
You are so right, this is a very easy method of fixing this problem. I did mine this morning following your method and it worked perfectly.
I had pulled the fuse, but the power windows wont work without it, Bummer !
Now I have everything working again.
Again, many thanks !

Cool. And don't close the sliding door too fast to avoid damaging the solder.
