Combustion equation
Guys, could you tell me what is the reaction taking place, inside the engine?
For a petrol engine precisely.. I looked up into the net, but i get a general reaction.. with end products co2 and h2o.. I want a specific reaction. with unburnt petrol on the right hand side.. Help? |

Re: Combustion equation
The combustion equation of petrol/diesel in vehicle is:-
2 C8H18 + 25 O2 -----> 16 CO2 + 18 H2O |

Re: Combustion equation
Actually, i was looking for more deep answer..
I already knew, it just a simple oxidation of Hydrocarbon.. But, lets take petrol engine for example, we get Some unused fuel .. I was actually looking for that amount of Unused fuel.. and the energy obtained in that reaction.. |

Re: Combustion equation
The amount of unburned fuel will depend on how inefficient the particular engine is. In an ideal process, there will not be any unburned fuel in the exhaust. A modern engine is much closer to ideal, when all sensors and solenoids are working properly, than an engine from 20 years ago or more. There are too many variables in your request to give the kind of detail you request.
