Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

I saw it at the Detroit Auto Show last January. I thought it was kind of cool looking, my wife loved it. To me it is most like the Nissan Murano, kind of cool in a weird way.

What would I be kidding about? Is it a joke to ask if people like the Subaru Tribeca?

Re: Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

It just seems a little late to be presenting it as a new model now....

It's growing on me though....still haven't decided if I like it or not.

Sorry about that, didn't mean to present as new. When we saw it at the auto show it hadn't hit the market yet. Since then I've only seen about 3 or 4 on the road, so in a way it still seems relatively new.

I'm sure it's pretty decent being a Subaru and all.

Re: Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

I call it the B9 Chewbacca. Don't get me wrong... I LOVE my Forester, but first off, I am HATING the styling going on with this new Alfa designer they brought in. It's supposed to be on pretty much every model they offer by I think 2009 (but I can't remember the date). If I wanted to buy an Alfa, I'd buy an Alfa. Secondly, I don't think the lines flow. They just aren't sexy. I like you can have more space or more passengers with the 5 or 7 passenger config (since my parent's Prius has more rear leg room than my Forester). All in all, though... I wouldn't own one.

Re: Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

From a functional standpoint, the Tribeca is a great step forward for Subaru - they're trying to reach a different market with it.

From a looks standpoint, I don't think it's absolutely ugly but like Tangie says, it's missed the mark as far as being a Subaru goes.

Now, have a look at the Tribeca, the Nissan Murano and the new Mazda SUV and notice the styling similarities in the body shape?

That's the "new" crossover craze... in part, I hope it passes b/c I think the Mazda CX isn't very attractive... the Murano on the other hand.... but then again I have a soft spot in my heart for Nissan.

Re: Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

I do like the "entry level luxury" market that Subaru is trying to compete in. Subaru vs. low-end BMWs and Audis (and winning) makes me happy. That said, the Alfa styling makes me glad I bought my Subaru before they made 'em ugly. The B9 merely follows that trend towards ugliness that Alfa has brought upon Subaru. I hope to be able to afford a Legacy before they become Alfa-ified.

Re: Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

Didn't like it in photos, liked it in person (07's with the blacked out grill look better than 06's, IMO). You can load it up (Nav, backup camera, XM, heated everything) for $1000's less than just about everything else in that niche... the clincher was the ride. It feels like luxury.

BTW, the one performance flaw that I've seen mentioned repeatedly is a lack of power. I don't get it, it has good torque through a pretty broad range, maybe people are comparing it to a WRX or something. I live at a pretty high elevation, but still have no problems with passing, hills, etc.

Re: Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

I bought my 2006 Tribeca in the summer of 2005. I love it. We have not had a single problem with this crossover. The front took some time to adapt to, but it grows on you. I don't understand the power problem. I've never had a hard time passing anyone.

Subaru Tribeca B9 is the best. My uncle got one, but he won't allow me to drive hehehe.. maybe he is afraid I could leave a scratch to his precious ride.

Re: Do you like the Subaru Tribeca B9?

Just helped my neighbor change the thermostat on an 08 3.6. Took us half an hour to find it. Damned thing was on the bottom of the engine. He said he'd never buy another one. It has left them stranded twice. It's had the engine ECU changed, A/C leak fixed, rides like a brick and now it overheats. Dealer said they haven't sold one in months. Only had two on the lot this year and transferred both to another dealer because they couldn't give them away. Looks good but...
