Cold air intake- need advice!
I recently decided against turbocharging my 03 golf 2.0, because i dont have the money or time. However I want to put in a cold air intake system. As previously mentioned, this is a 2003 volkswagen golf gls, with a 2.0. Its a 5 speed if that makes any difference.
A few questions: As this is a car community, im guessing there is someone out there who could steer me towards a kit of sorts for my specific vehicle. Are there any kits out there for a decent price that will perform well for the money? Although a kit would be nice and easy, my recent expeditions to auto zone have me thinking. Last time i was there, i spoke to the same man who has helped me with my numerous predicaments in the past. We went out to my bat mobile and discussed the various intake related components that will need special attention. He pointed out that i will need an adapter for my mass airflow sensor in order to put it into the new intake piece that im planning to acquire. This is where im getting confused with my own plans... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYWLureXHYw This video shows a car not unlike my own with a cold air intake set up. Notice that the mass airflow sensor is still in its stock housing (this housing would normally bolt onto the upper half of the factory airbox) My question is, if i were to get an adapter for my airflow sensor, could i build a custom (probably aluminum) intake that goes all the way up to the intake manifold? (as opposed to something that just bolts to the plastic factory intake tube as shown in the video) As far as the custom build goes, i was thinking of using spectre parts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!! |

Re: Cold air intake- need advice!
Check out APR / Carbonio, or maybe you can find something on Vortex dot com in the classified area

Re: Cold air intake- need advice!
I built an intake from spectre parts i got from auto zone and it is working nicely. Doesn't go down to the bumper but instead the filter sits right where the lower half of the factory air box was. i am building a sheet metal enclosure for it next weekend to keep some of the heat from the engine out. To continue this discussion, i am thinking of now getting the exhaust redone. (for cheap, as i know people personally who have experience doing things like this.) im still trying to decide between a cat back and a manifold back. Any suggestions?

You might want to Google around, I've heard of some people getting some KN Filters and building their own. Its just a thought .
